Just ran across this bit of racing news. The legendary 1968 Golden Globe race has spawned a new race for 2018 & 2022. The rules follow the same ones used back in 1968 (solo, unassisted, non-stop circumnavigation). Different types of boats are allowed and with a flexible start date (June through October).

It appears the 2022 race will try to leverage a "one design" approach by using Bernard's steel hulled Joshua as the design baseline. Excellent choice...very tough boat indeed.

Of course, some good primers to truly appreciate this race are the books below.

The Long Way Around (another excellent read)

A World of My Own (a bit technical, but excellent read as well)

There were a lot of colorful characters in the inaugural crazy race back in 1968, and one who apparently went mad indeed and apparently took his own life (Donald Crowhurst).

The list of skippers for the 2018 race looks very colorful indeed. Feel free to chime in and post race updates here.
