IRMA---CVS Pharmacy on Cocoa Beach Wednesday, September 12
My cell phone was nearly dead and I was searching for a way to get it charged. I saw a car at the CVS and their door was partially open. I had hurt my legs just before the storm and couldn't hardly walk. I asked the person inside if they could possibly charge my phone-they were using a generator. She said: "no sir we don't do that". I must have looked pitiful as I turned to walk out and she said-" OK, I'll do it come on over here". She was kinda gruff but proceeded to put the phone on charge! I bought some stuff there and went to a couple of other places coming back in about an hour and a half to a fully charged cell.
    =======
They incredible level of kindness and generosity at these two places was just overwhelming......

No damage to the condo or any of the boats but for some very odd reason(s) my DVD player and my calculator both died..

    WOLF---daughter of fire arrow
    Updated 9/22/17 specs and notes:

NOTE: I'm sure various changes will continue until(and after) the boat is launched-that's what development is all about.

    WOLF Specifications:

    LOA 15.458' (4.7m)
    ---
    Beam max-18.75' (5.72m)changed 3/22/17
    -beam folded-8' (2.4m)
-main hull beam on deck: 2.625'(.8m)
-main hull beam at wl: 2.125'(.65m)
-main hull L/B at wl:7.27/1 (planing)
    ---
    Two Stage Ama-11.5' (3.5m) changed 3/22/17
    -ama hull-7.7' (2.35m)
    -ama hull beam .58' (.18m)
    -ama hull L/B=13.3/1 (planing)
    - curved piece-5.9' (1.8m) changed 3/22/17
    - overlap- 2' (.61m)
    - two stage ama canted bottom out 12 degrees.
    - two stage ama buoyancy(not including crossarms)=252lb(61%)
-changed 7/27/17 : Note: planing two stage ama is designed for incidental contact with the water. Not to be sailed "on" on a regular basis since foils provide vertical lift. The planing surface is used to reduce drag when the ama does make incidental water/wave contact at speed. Hydroptere adopted stepped, planing amas after first starting with a "normally" shaped ama.
    ---
    Weight:updated 6/12/17
    -boat-target-275lb/ MAX 299lb (135.9kg)changed 6/12/17

    --downwind=1.4 changed 6/12/17
    --max pressure before depowering= 1.76lb/sq.ft.
    --max heeling moment=5402ft.lb.*
    * not including asy/screecher

    ---
Seating: there are two levels of very comfortable seating on each side of the boat. The upper level has a sliding and removable seat back for great back support while flying. Some degree of adjustment may be incorporated in the lower seating level. See the pictures below for a rough idea of the basic seating plan. added to spec sheet 9/16/17
    ---
Designed flight angle of heel: 5.5 degrees to 15 degrees. Standard 10 degrees.

    ---
    Foils:

-uptip foil in each ama, adjustable AOI and up/down(mostly retractable). Tentative AOI-3-5 degrees over twisted foil. Asymmetrical section.-- added 3/25/17
These foils have a "droop" to the tip first used on Fire Arrow which was the first trimaran to combine a droop tip with an UptiP foil on any trimaran ever!9/22/17--see posts 2577 and 2587 for the Fire Arrow "droop", WOLF "droop" and the Gitana 17 ama UptiP foil tip "droop".
-mainfoil wand altitude control, adjustable AOI(nominal 2.5 degrees),up/down(retracts flush with bottom). Symmetrical section.-- added 7/28/17
    -rudder T-foil, adjustable AOI(nominal zero degrees),retractable.
-Note that in their smooth water configuration, the uptip foils can be left down at their flying position when the boat is pulled up on the beach! And, of course, as mentioned before these foils do not have to be raised or lowered each time the boat tacks or gybes. This is not found on any other boat using uptip foils.
The Fire Arrow Type/ WOLF uptip foils are shallow draft compared to most other types of hydrofoil.
    added 3/29/17
    ---
Planing surface on lee ama hull is designed to be flat when main hull is just clear of the water(6") and that will occur at an angle of heel of 12 degrees.(Depending on foil lift-3/25/17)

    Fire Arrow Foil System:
Gitana 17 , designed and conceived by Guillaume Verdier . A happy coincidence that the basic concept is similar to the Fire Arrow Foil System. Gitana 17 is the FIRST full size trimaran ever to be designed from scratch to use this type of foil configuration:
    Gitana Foiling!.jpg

Maserati- the very first fullsize trimaran to use a foil configuration similar to the Fire Arrow Foil System. The configuration was applied to an already existing MOD 70 trimaran by Verdier :

Fire Arrow- the very FIRST trimaran of any size to use the basic Fire Arrow Foil System:

    WOLF daughter of fire arrow
I took a bunch of stuff with me to the motel and a few items didn't make it back here. The most important missing item is my WOLF notebook -200 pages almost filled with notes sketches and calculations including all my detailed foil calcs. Such a shame and I have no idea what happened. I took it to study and when I heard the bridges were open I left in a big hurry so I must have left it on the couch. Damn.
    ============================================

UPDATE---Wow! I found it on the build table under a pile of papers!! How it could have gotten there is beyond me but regardless I'm so glad to have it back!

Give them a call if you haven't. Housekeeping may have taken it to the lost and found/front desk.

Thats one of the embarrassing parts: I did check with them and they swore they didn't have it. Under my breath I was saying "yeah, right!"
    Oh, brother.......

WOLF daughter of fire arrow-concept model---- All small parts of the model have been 95% finished as of today after a three day effort to knockout a whole lot of sanding ,filling, sanding and filling. The little detail sanding on these parts is a real pain!! Tomorrow I'll wet sand everything and then its time to assemble the boat. Parts ready for wet sanding include the mast, half-a-wishbone boom, ama foils, rudder and rudder foil, daggerboard and main foil, and both two stage amas. The main hull is mostly already finished. Wolf daughter of fire arrow---mainfoil embedded in the model so that when it is removed the fit is near perfect. The foil is curved to keep the tips out of the sand when being beached and there are more than likely some small hydrodynamic benefits as well. Biggest problem is making a flap work on a curved foil.....

WOLF daughter of fire arrow-- mainfoil + daggerboard---rudder +rudder foil. Foils assembled and mostly finished. Both foils slide up and down and mainfoil fits flush with bottom when its retracted:

Dear Doug , the bottom right text in English :
« The anti drift aera of this small daggerboard will be helpful in light winds. At its tip, the two tilted foils (winglets) will be dismountable. Their angle of incidence, like for the Langevin foils, will help the lift-off of the central hull. In case of shock with a floating object, the small daggerboard can break without damaging the hull. »

Charles H seems refer to an old Gilles Vaton design dated 1984, "Charles Hiedsick IV" for Alain Gabbay (and not VIII as wrongly mentioned in the site here below) :
Vaton prototype foiler Charles Heidseick 4 http://www.vaton-design.com/vatondesign_gb/proto_ch_heidseick_4.htm

Charles Hiedsick IV suffered from a too heavy weight (in those days, not easy to build light such design) and does not performed as expected, but its follow-up Paca was more successful :
    Vaton prototype foiler PACA http://www.vaton-design.com/vatondesign_gb/proto_paca.htm

"Langevin foils" mention in the text is for Sylvestre Langevin, another naval architect who also explored the foiler concept in early 80's, promoting in particular the "inverted Y" foils. One of his design, PIR2, is still sailing :
    Trimaran PiR2 https://www.facebook.com/pg/trimaranpir2/about/

Inverted Y foils were also adopted by Alain Lombard in Ker Cadelac II in 1985 :

WOLF daughter of fire arrow---- painted! Still have to touch up and also paint the crossarms, mast and foils--and then "decorate".
