WOLF daughter of Fire Arrow--simulated 6 degree angle of heel flying.
Mainfoil is not in its normal position but both ama foils are. Main hull is 9" above the waters surface and the lee ama is 12" above the surface in the picture below. The red line is the flight waterline:

    Updated 7/27/17 specs and notes:

NOTE: I'm sure various changes will continue until(and after) the boat is launched-that's what development is all about.

    WOLF Specifications:

    LOA 15.458' (4.7m)
    ---
    Beam max-18.75' (5.72m)changed 3/22/17
    -beam folded-8' (2.4m)
-main hull beam on deck: 2.625'(.8m)
-main hull beam at wl: 2.125'(.65m)
-main hull L/B at wl:7.27/1 (planing)
    ---
    Two Stage Ama-11.5' (3.5m) changed 3/22/17
    -ama hull-7.7' (2.35m)
    -ama hull beam .58' (.18m)
    -ama hull L/B=13.3/1 (planing)
    - curved piece-5.9' (1.8m) changed 3/22/17
    - overlap- 2' (.61m)
    - two stage ama canted bottom out 12 degrees.
    - two stage ama buoyancy(not including crossarms)=252lb(61%)
-changed 7/27/17 : Note: planing two stage ama is designed for incidental contact with the water. Not to be sailed "on" on a regular basis since foils provide vertical lift. The planing surface is used to reduce drag when the ama does make incidental water/wave contact at speed. Hydroptere adopted stepped, planing amas after first starting with a "normally" shaped ama.
    ---
    Weight:updated 6/12/17
    -boat-target-275lb/ MAX 299lb (135.9kg)changed 6/12/17

    -boat 275 @ 8.7'= 2392.5ft.lb.( 3243.79N/m)
    TOTAL RM= 5402.5ft.lb (7324.8N/m)
    Downforce

    ---
    Foils:

-uptip foil in each ama, adjustable AOI and up/down(mostly retractable). Tentative AOI-3-5 degrees over twisted foil. Asymmetrical section.-- added 3/25/17
-mainfoil wand altitude control, adjustable AOI(nominal 2.5 degrees),up/down(retracts flush with bottom). Symmetrical section.-- added 7/28/17
    -rudder T-foil, adjustable AOI(nominal zero degrees),retractable.
-Note that in their smooth water configuration, the uptip foils can be left down at their flying position when the boat is pulled up on the beach! And, of course, as mentioned before these foils do not have to be raised or lowered each time the boat tacks or gybes. This is not found on any other boat using uptip foils.
The Fire Arrow Type/ WOLF uptip foils are shallow draft compared to most other types of hydrofoil.
    added 3/29/17
    ---
Planing surface on lee ama hull is designed to be flat when main hull is just clear of the water(6") and that will occur at an angle of heel of 12 degrees.(Depending on foil lift-3/25/17)

WOLF daughter of Fire Arrow-wand system:
Tentatively decided to go with dual midship wands instead of the Whisper system below (click on Whisper pictures for a better view) because there is no possibility of wand interaction with the daggerboard wake or wand wake interaction with the rudder with a dual midship system.

Fire Arrow Dual Midship Wands-designed to be vertical when boat is heeled 10 degrees:

    WOLF daughter of Fire Arrow--
The boat will have a rudder+foil that can be moved fore and aft to allow me to experiment with various settings. The rudder blade itself will be installed at something like a 3 degree angle raked forward at the bottom to help reduce ventilation and to balance the load about the pivot axis. The rudder +foil will retract so that the foil is above the bottom of the boat to facilitate beaching. The daggerboard foil retracts flush with the bottom for the same reason. Wolf daughter of Fire Arrow----- Here's a shot of all the small parts just coated with Duratec for the second time. The stuff is made to spray but I can't in this location so I brush it. Duratec sands so easy that it works fine.
    Parts:
    1) Port and Stb ama curved pieces,
    2) Port and Stb ama UptiP foils,
    3) Mainfoil,
    4) Daggerboard,
    5) Rudder,
    6) Rudder foil,
    7) Half-a-wishbone boom.

Gitan 17 ama UptiP foil compared with Fire Arrow ama UptiP foil:
Note the "droop tip" on both foils:

IRMA! My neighbors and I are getting out of here since this place is on the narrowest strip of land between the ocean and Banana River. I won't be able to take any of the models with me so I'll hope for the best........

I survived IRMA! And so did the condo-very minor damage except the unit above me has water damage that hasn't affected my place-yet.
I have some interesting stuff about this later.......

    Extreme Misery...
More to come after I digest it all: I bailed from the motel I endured during the storm Monday afternoon only to find no power and water at the condo(same as the motel). Monday night while I was trying to sleep in 82 degrees, I was awakened by the light in my room-the power was back on! What a great feeling as the AC kicks in!
Tuesday a neighbor and I went out to get some food- I spent $50 on bread, beef tips and breakfast beef sausage. Later that morning a complete disaster-one of the hardest things to take after you've convinced yourself its all over: the power went off again! And stayed off until 3pm today! What absolute misery but compared to the agony of the people of the Keys and Islands not so bad, I guess. But to have the air come on then go off is exquisite torture that messes with your mind especially with no water and no ice! Maybe today it's on for good.
And by the way this has all cost over a thousand dollars......

Doug! You are alive! I thought you might have tried extreme measures to test foil stability in Irma.... Glad you and the brood survived.

Thanks, Cav! But there isn't any brood(that I know about) unless something went on with all the little creatures that probably snuck in here with everything open. There are screens but still......

    IRMA---Fire Station # 1, Rockledge, Florida
I drove my rental car at least twenty miles Tuesday, September 11 searching for ice-gas was getting low and I knew I had to quit looking. I passed the Fire Station and then wondered if they might have an ice machine and be able to fill my small cooler. As I drove around behind the station a guy was just closing the last door -he saw me and came out.
"What can I do for ya?" He saw the cooler-- I was almost speechless-- and filled it up. I was unbelievably moved by this guys kindness and generosity-and I'll never forget it as long as I live....
