    Thanks Hoyt,

Do you mean the one in post #7560 with the start of spring on a farm in East Flanders or Luis Fonsi's music clip linked at the bottom there, or the one of the above Viking Ship in post #7561 ? ?

About the latter, here's another one from Draken Harald Hårfagre....

‘‘ 8 minutes with the amazing Draken. This is the film we showed in our exhibition tent on the festivals around the Great Lakes, filmed between Greenland and Newfoundland on the crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean. ’’

Hi I'm a forum newbie and I didn't see a welcome to the Forum thread so I decided to post in the random pictures thread, as everybody loves these things.

I joined because I have questions about boats but also because I appreciate design. All kinds of design. I listed my occupation as a retired computer bum but for a good portion of my employment history I worked in engineering. Nothing to do with boats but lots to do with building & manufacturing things.

So here's a picture of my tiny experimental electric boat, the X-24v. She has had some mods since I posted this picture from her maiden voyage as an all-electric boat, and I'll post some more on it later.

This looks like a nice forum and I look forward to spending some time here in research and consultation.

I was referring specifically to post #7561. You usually post cool vids.

    @Angélique
    The Draken video was amazing!
That is real vicarious living for a sailor who lives in the desert.
    ;)

You can see what the landscape is like in the next photos. Even though we had record rainfalls this winter, anything we don't irrigate is already brown dead and dry.

I've had my boat out three times this season and the lakes are higher than they've been in 10, years but this 13" bass is the biggest fish I've caught so far.

The truth is that the thrill of running around in the experimental electric boat was more thrilling than the actual fishing.

I will round up some photos of my boat in construction and post them up in a separate thread later. It's really very unimpressive, but still occasionally manages to get me the F'n boat comment from my missus. Fortunately she likes to fish.

That's her screaming at the jumping trout which will not take her worm.

There is some enormously impressive stuff on this website, and I haven't begun to scratch the surface of what's posted here yet. There is so much interesting reading that I haven't managed to post anything more about my boat.

Unless the stock market keeps racing forward, and I clean up in the ETF business, even the boats of the almost-rich and barely-famous will always be out of reach for a guy like me.

But I really enjoy seeing other people's project boats, and it amazes me the kind of huge vessels some of you folks are rebuilding.

National Geographic: Our Beaches - Sand, Sea, Serenity - Through Time

    ‘‘ FLYING HIGH
The world over - from France to Australia, from Brazil to South Africa, from Florida to Hawaii and countless other areas - we are drawn to our magnificent beaches.

For many, the attraction is the sand, sea, and surf. For others, it’s the mesmerizing sounds of rhythmically crashing waves and the vast expanse of the seemingly endless horizon. Then there are the breathtaking morning sunrises and evening sunsets that are the definition of peace and serenity.
    ’’

For understandable reasons of copyright concern I wasn't allowed to display all the pictures in big format here (bigger than shown there), so below I've linked to them on the website of National Geographic itself, see the above link for the associated captions.

The battleship Texas the last time it was in dry dock. It needs it badly again as it is sprouting many new leaks.

There's a story about the QM and the final condition of her funnels, being basically a shell of paint over the remnants of steel, that comes to mind. It is perchance ironic but the wooden and even iron museum ships will probably be with us long after the mighty steel ships have crumbled away.
