This is the first year where no one boat is clear ahead. Any of the first three could win. The tracker shows BB behind, but it is a 2 hour old report. I hope our prop repairs are still holding!

I expected Bad Kitty to catch up in Johnstone St as they have raced up it at least 8 times now, so probably more than anyone else. Certainly last year I remember how we sought out all the back eddies, sometimes tacking back into shore when only 100 yds out, and one time raising the daggerboard to clear rocks. Those of you who have been in the PNW know that the average depth is 600ft + so to be that close to rocks is scary! AND while we were repairing BB they were going through Gorgeson Pass in the dark under sail. That is somewhere we worry about when motoring through in daylight. Lots of twists and rocks. Not easy like Dodd or Seymour Narrows

The strong wind is yet to come and it will hit when they are in the roughest area of the coast but someone will finish tomorrow or early Friday

Looking at the tracker it looks like team Pure and Wild on the Tetzlaff/Melvin 8.5 trimaran just pipped Big Broderna for the win. No report as yet that I've seen.

This is what I wrote on the FB page yesterday

"So the first two boats finished the Race to Alaska 6 minutes apart. Team Freeburd just holding off Big Bordena.

But a question: If I had driven Lars at 80 instead of 60mph back to his boat after repairing his propshaft would they have won??? More seriously, I didn't understand why they spent an hour refitting the prop shaft to the boat in the dark instead of leaving as soon as we got it back on board (it was a light following wind) and waiting to refit it in daylight in the next calm patch"

Funny how races are won and lost.
