    Hello all
Kankama is going geriatric - I am putting twin outboards on her in 7 weeks. I have the new pods figured out but I would love to make some new engine covers that reduce noise when motoring. I have already canvassed ideas on some techniques but I am interested in PET foam for the engine boxes. It is cheaper than PVC and so I can get more insulation for the same cost. The problem is that I can't seem to find any in Australia. Does anyone know a source of 80kg PET foam in Australia?

    cheers

    G'day Catsketcher,

Bunnings sell a high density foam that I've glassed over with good success. I contacted the manufacturer and they advised me that it could be used to build a boat. Definately worth a look? And the biggie it's modestly priced.

    Corley epoxy coated

I've always been curious about that foam. It seems pretty dense do you know what sort of foam composition they use?

Its just XPS foam if its the Knauf multi use foam board your referring to? its 0.3Mpa compressive strength - not good enough for structural boat building but fine for furniture items etc - i made a table from it sandwiched 1/4in ply each side, worked great :)

I've just used the stuff to round off the bow on a Strike 5.7 I'm building. 2 layers of 200 gram cloth and epoxy and I've smacked it with a piece of timber and no damage. Groper - you're correct it is Knauf brand.
