    Hi all,

    First time here at Boatdsign.net.
I'm in the beginning stages of planning to build an amphibious diesel all terrain
4 wheel drive vehicle. I was thinking of using Jet Drives to propel the vehicle through the water. Can a Jet Drive be run off of a Power Take Off? I was thinking 2 Jet Drives would be enough. I want the vehicle to be faster through water than the usual 2-4 mph. Would it be possible to run 2 Jet Drives off of 1 PTO?

Why two drives ? And what speed do you desire ?

2 drives was the thought because it's more than likely going to be a heavy beast and wanting to reduce the strain on a single unit. I'm thinking around 10-12 mph for the speed.

The speed issue has more to do with the design required for land use than anything else. With most vehicles like this the type of drive and HP supplied to it wouldn't make a huge difference in water speed, those big tires and boxy hull shape tend to trump everything else.

Two drives would be an unnecessary complication. As probably would be a jet drive. A simple shrouded propellor would suffice. But getting 10-12 mph would be almost mission impossible, you'd be lucky to get half that without running into barriers that are difficult to surmount.
