    Hi,
My wife suddenly wants to go sailing, a week (I guess its about 17 june to 25 june ). This summer. Area she's aiming on, is Greece. I'm of course happy. House and dog(s) here will be taken care of by elder son :) in fact, pure joy. So anyone here with some contact info/ numbers to some ok/ serious and reasonably priced boat rental companies in that area, who can forward that info to me? thinking about approx 30 ft boat. (Two adults and one semi-adult boy). email me on "knutsand74 (A) gmail . com" ( @ and remove spacebars) in advance thanks.

Also interested in tips/ where to/ don'ts if there are any.

    K

Hi Knut, welcome back aboard the forum . . :)

Many boats for sale there, maybe someone is willing to rent one out to you for a small price, here's a 1994 Nauticat 35 - Pilothouse for sale, 1 hour from Athens it says.

I don't know them, just digged up the info since I've seen an ad about it a while back, saw on the pics she's Belgian flaged, think that's why I remembered . . :)

[IMG] TAPESTRY PDF Think they speak French and English, and maybe also Dutch. Nauticat 35: Review - Sailboat Data

Good luck, fair winds and have a nice holiday there . .

    Hi KnutSand,
Nothing to do with the boat itself, but sailing in the med...Much of the med requires you have an international proficiency certificate issued by your home country (or sponsor EU country if your country doesn't issue their own). If you don't have that, many countries (I believe Greece is included) won't let you anchor or dock in their waters and will only allow you sail through as Innocent Passage without stopping.

Just something to keep in mind in your planning.

    Knut, family plug here:

my brother Colin runs Pinnacle yacht charter on Corfu, about 200km from Athens; not sure if that is too far:

    Heh, Quote Angel:
"Knut's avatar is the laconic Sea Captain Corto Maltese, so I'll think he's licensed for this trip .." quote end..
I'm old enough to have survived through some really bad ideas.. But quite frankly; I lack documentation. Mechanical engineer with additional education in marine technology. My first boat at approx 6 years of age.. (and first) Try to cross the Skagerak ocean (between Norway / Denmark) at the mature age of 8... Have had some boats, all small/ moderat in size. Motor and sail.
Have worked with design of fast rescue boats and life boats (www.norsafe.no ) did some work with testing and certification (ABS/ DNV/ RINA etc...). Drop tests , capsize testing and crash tests (I was in a period the most expensive employee at the company, according to my boss..) Also meetings in IMO in London (SOLAS), and a few months below deck (engine) in ships.

In my early age..well; we just showed that we could handle a 45', old, heavy sailboat... and; "ok, well, you can take her out..."
So, i guess I'll have to do some digging with regards to what can be documented. :)
And even educate myself a bit.. Formally...

    And btw; beautiful paintings there.
