    Welcome to the forum.

The cat rig does very well to windward, if it has reasonable aspect ratio, good trim and is well arranged. That's pretty heavy for such as small boat.

In addition to a mast and sail, you'll also need a rudder and central appendage (dagger, center or leeboard), so the boat can sail upwind.

Hi PAR, the boat has an existing long and moderated deep keel, so maybe he could try first if the existing keel beam offers sufficient leeway resistance already, instead of mounting a central appendage (dagger, center or leeboard) right away . . ? ?

See the thread: Small Wooden Boat Sail - (without the full deck)

Maybe, but windward progress will not be terribly impressive with that very shoal, low aspect keel. I also suspect it'll be pretty tender, given her sections, in spite of her mass.

I'll quote from your post #4 of the previous thread, see the comments + links below the pictures...

The above picture shows a Leg of Mutton Sail (aka: Leg o’ Mutton / LOM / Mutton / 3 sided sprit)

The two above pictures show a Lateen sail, Lateens however are cumbersome to reef and tack . .

Nice pictures though ! - :) - - - (quote is from the last link)
