I am in a quandary over which type of tank to replace in my 170 Aquasport Center console. The original was a 31 gal aluminum tank.I would like to replace with an 18 gal aluminum or molded plastic...I found a RDS metal tank, and an 18 gal Scepter molded plastic tank...Which would be your preference? Aluminum or Molded plastic?....:?::confused:

I would have gone with plastic but too late....

The tank needs to be mounted in a way that all sides of the tank have air flow including the bottom. Do not set the tank on wood or anything else that absorbs or traps moisture. You need to devise a mounting system to raise the tank so there is at least 1/4 inch air space under the tank. If moisture gets trapped and held against the tank it will corrode out very rapidly.

It needs to be strapped or anchored so it will not move in any direction. If you use straps they need to be a material that will not trap or absorb moist against the tank, and if you use metal straps, a metal that is compatible with aluminum. Metals such as copper or brass can form a electrical cell and eat away at the tank. Stainless steel is good if it is insulated from the aluminum by a plastic spacer. But best is aluminum or plastic straps. ps: or nylon straps
