Top idea, I'd like to know if the crew are going to sit to windward or leeward ?

 

Didn't know you were there in your proa off Devonport, Russell, didn't hear anyone else remark about it either; just shows what an ill informed, ignorant lot we are because I most certainly would have made a point of checking out Jzerro. Proas are fascinating and when Daniel Charles arrived here I talked with him about his futuristic, innovative and very extreme design drawings. Also met Halvard Mabire who also sailed on Tahiti Douche. Incidentally when Stuart and Zack Rogerson restored the proa the deck was completely rotten and birds and rats had crapped all through it. It was dead and gone but they saved it. You should contact them through the Golden Oldies.
My sailing mate Jacques de Reuck (who has the alterred/butchered? Farrier 680) had a Daniel Charles mini-Transat 6.5 named Vileda and did very well in the race with it. Here's a picture.

I used Nacra 5.8 hulls.

 

All multihulls should be painted yellow?
Back in the 1970s/'80s/'90s there were numbers of yellow ones in Auckland, mainly Crowther Krakens and Buccaneers; yellow was almost compulsory here.

 

Sid's starboard float after storm. It has been epoxied back together but it was a long, jigsaw job - so haven't done any work on the 6.5. The under beam structure and fairing was also smashed out in two places; that too has been repaired and I started repainting yesterday.
Here's a shot that "sadist" Eric Eason took with his crappy cellphone of the float half re-attached. The box beam was shattered; float was torn off completely with bits and pieces spread around the high tide mark. Looking at the mess I wonder how sane I am.
Have been rethinking how the damage occurred; maybe the platform went up on the port float and then crashed down on the starboard, breaking it off. Who knows; happened at 2am - no one about. Would have been spectacular?

 

Bit more sanding, then paint, then lift rig ... and then go Sid sailing again. But maybe I've missed the superb Indian summer weather we've been having at the moment?

Skipped a day working on Sid or airfoil covering the 650's beam, (thinking of naming the boat Frog?? - with special colour scheme) - went sailing in light airs on Jacques Shifty with his next door neighbour Oliver; the old Flash Harry wing mast and new Doyle main has made Shifty .... very shifty.
Coming back home with tide dropping fast, showed Jacques and Oliver the narrow pass through Meola reef. I know it because I placed the old alloy mast marker there at low tide a couple of years ago. We lifted the float daggers and rudders halfway to make it through. No worries.
But you see the bottom rock sliding fast beneath you. Go too far port or starboard with the ripping tide and .....!!

Lifted Sid's repaired mast today - superb autumn weather here in Auckland, sail tomorrow.

 

Its good to see that you got Sid back together. I have been looking at your tides. You have a pretty good range of between 2 an 3 meters. How far into your rising or lowering tide will Sid be afloat and be able to be sailed?
