The first thing to do is write a statement of requirements (SOR). This is an inclusive list of everything you want the boat to do, to have inside, type of propulsion, materials, interior, etc. Then, from that, it will be possible to give you an estimate on the price of the design, construction materials, etc.

You need to distinguish between "willing to help" from that of "able to help". The two are very different.

There are plenty of posters on here with the ability. Which then also goes to the point of the forum...people seeking help/assistance.

Usually it is I have a problem with XXX on my boat why is it occurring....or similar.

That is a totally different proposition to help me design a 75foot boat.

The professionals on here that post can easily design such a vessel. But if the person is serious, it requires a serious approach. That being using the services of a naval architect...just like any other client. If they elect not too, by doing it on the cheap and cherry picking....then the replies generally reflect such, i.e none, since their MO is at variance with what is required by professionals. Thus it leaves only the arm chair designers...who don't like to be the front runner for fear of being exposed as lacking at best!

He just wants to get some general feedback on the subject, not the blueprints for a 75' boat. The 75' intrigues me, not 70', not 80'........

OK first off sorry I didn't mean that you guys were not unwilling I just was just saying he didn't get the help he wanted.

Secondly I would like to say that I myself will desgin the boat once I find out how big you guys think you can help me with. I built and designed boats before just not bigger than a 52 footer

Third the hull materials will be made of two layers. the outer layer will be a composite of different heat fussed plastics. The inner layer is made from layering fiberglass and carbon fiber.
The frame will be made from wielded aluminum.

Fourth the purpose of this boat will be to be a fully self-reliant electronic boat so lots of space for solar panels and wind generators and a large engine room for motors and batteries

And lastly ID like to thank all of the people who posted and viewed this topic

I can't imagine a worse material selection than a carbon fiber shell with aluminium grid... Why would you want a boat that will dissolve itself?

As a broader issue, you don't select the materials then design theboat, the design and demands of the boat drive the material selection process.

Considering your situation, you'd be best advised to just go ahead and self design this project. The realities of a design such as you've very briefly described, requires no less than some serious skills and those that have previously and successfully "designed" 52' yachts, should have little difficulty with a 75' yacht. Of course, you know the SOR and the requirements this vessel should meet, so what do you really need, as "designers" of 52' vessels, generally have the skill sets for 40' and 75' vessels as well. In other words, how much real designing did you perform on the 52' vessel, because I can tell you it's hundreds of hours of effort for a 75' vessel. If it's as I suspect and full of unusual and less than ordinary equipment, propulsion, etc., costs can rise exponentially, with research, modeling and testing too. Lastly, your "composite" hull needs to be tossed, in favor of something you're more accustomed to engineering, as the mix you've suggested, just isn't wise for several, mostly obvious (to a composites engineer) reasons.

This isn't meant to be coy or glib, it's just unqualified. Can you post an image or drawings of the 52' craft you've previously designed, including the marquee and sign off? We get lots of dreamers looking for a "little help" with their 150' mini mega yacht. Some, as have you, suggest they have more money than a person should be allowed, to which I say, my retainer is 20k.

This could be a real "no brainer" for electric propulsion since your hull is almost a giant capacitor. However, if you wield the aluminum correctly you might be okay

Sorry -conventional (and recognized) types of construction are recommended.

I think we should divide the project into teams. I'll take the bow. My plan is to make it pointy.

I'll spend most of it on Holden panel vans and vintage surfboards, the rest I'll just waste on building the really big boat, Gonzo has the bow design sorted, we'll just work back from there till the last few coins run out..
