    Full Time Composites Department Chair/Faculty

    DESCRIPTION: SMCC is seeking a full-time chair/faculty member for our A.A.S. degree program in Composite Science and Manufacturing.

    The position provides overall leadership and management of the department, including maintaining safety procedures, scheduling courses, coordinating the curriculum, ensuring instruction quality, managing the budget, hiring adjunct faculty, and teaching or supervising course content that includes:
    • Composite fabrication and manufacturing processes and methods
    • Composite repair
    • Composite materials including mixing, curing, and post-curing of resins
    • Composite quality and testing
    • Fundamentals of polymer science
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Management of the department and facility
    Teaching 12 credits or the equivalent each semester
    Advising students
    Developing, modifying, and assessing the effectiveness of the curriculum
    Participating in various college and professional development activities
    Working with our Business and Community Partnerships staff to provide workshops for industry
    Other professional duties related to the position

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    B.S. degree in engineering, science, or a field related to Plastics Engineering
    Five years direct experience in composite-based manufacturing, including experience with safety programs, fabrication, resin preparation, product testing, and training

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Community College teaching experience
    M.S. in a related field, or Ten years direct industry experience in composite-based manufacturing

    PROJECTED START DATE: August 15, 2016
    SALARY RANGE: $50,000-$70,000 (32 week teaching contract)
