Hello Floboater, welcome to the Forum.

I was doing some random googling, and I came across this photo of a 14' Woodson - is this the same as yours?

A bit more googling found this most excellent history of Woodson Boats - it is rather longwinded, but you eventually get to the section about Woodson.

I found the above link at this Forum

and I posted a reply there with a link to this thread.

Hello floboater - does your Woodson look similar to the photos that I posted above of the 15' model?

Attached here is a photo of an 18' Woodson with a cabin - I saw it on the west coast here recently.
The catamaran on the left does coastal cruises, while the pirate ship is the Jolly Roger, which does booze cruises.

I'll be darned. I've never seen that configuration before. One of my 18's had the forward control dash and windshield originally (but is now now a center console) and the other of my 18's was center console from the factory.

Some pals of mine had a Woodson 18' cabin version in the mid 70's for a while - they were all built then with a Volvo inboard petrol engine (I think about 130 hp) and an outdrive leg (an Aquamatic?).
The boat in the photo above originally had an I/O engine, but was subsequently modified to take an outboard motor. The engine in use is a 40 hp kerosene (paraffin) unit, which is fine for coastal pottering at displacement speeds - the owners takes passengers on fishing and snorkelling cruises.
These boats originally had a little windscreen on the top of the cabin house, and a nice bimini awning over the cockpit.

Very interesting. Such a versatile hull design...which is a lot the reason why I've owned Woodson's for 30 years and counting.

My '64 18 was originally delivered from the dealer with a 55HP Homelite 4-stroke on the back and it came with the boat when I bought it, albeit in terrible shape. In hindsight, I should have kept that engine..but back then the fact that a Johnson 115 (what I hung on it) consumed lots of gasoline was no big deal really. It made the boat fast and that's all I cared about then.

    I'm soon repowering my '68 18 Woodson...taking the Evinrude 150 V-6 off the back in favor of a new Yamaha 70HP 4-stroke.

    Woodson Logo

What a great thread. My father and I have spent the last several hours on this thread, checking out the pictures and reading the history of Woodson boats. I'm 34 years old and my dad has had his 18" Dual Cathedral Woodson since before I was born. I grew up on that boat and have spent most of this summer, with my dad, restoring The "Maggie O" (After my mom).

We are wondering if there is anyway to purchase or replace the plastic "WOODSON" logo on the side of the boat. After reading this thread I plan on posting pictures when we are finished. My dad is excited to share pictures of his pride and joy. If anyone has any ideas of where we could obtain that logo, we would greatly appreciate it.

Woodson logos aren't available any more, but they certainly can be cut from vinyl (any sign maker) or even machined (CNC or 3D printed) from plastic or metal. The vinyl graphic will be relatively inexpensive, though 3D printing or 3 axis CNC in aluminum wouldn't be very bad either. I just had some Hacker logos cut on a 3 axis machine and it wasn't that costly, considering what reproductions or originals would have been. There's even a few companies that specialize in just this, old logo reproduction.

Hello everyone! I bought my first boat today. So I started looking online to see what I could dig up about this boat . I found you guys. The boat I bought is a 15 foot Woodson build in Coral Gables Florida. Not sure what model yet. I have to put a trailer hitch on my truck to bring it home. It is a split window bowrider. It has all of the original logos on it and the manufacturing tag. I will post some photos from the listing. When I get it home I'll post some more.

Good luck with your boat, Michael, it should be a nice stable platform, but don't you wonder about the colours ( I assume gel-coat)....almost as if chosen to make the boat blend in with the water, which is pretty crazy for a variety of reasons, all safety related, like collision avoidance, making it difficult to find you in an emergency, etc.

Thank you Mr. Efficiency. I'm not sure why the previous owner painted the boat this color. I'm glad you pointed it out to me. You're absolutely right not the safest color scheme. Maybe gelcoat not sure the paint is pretty rough. I have experience in painting boats so I guess I'm going to have to paint it sooner than I thought. Thanks again I really appreciated the advice.

Certainly if you have any intent to go offshore, a more visible colour of at least one of either the deck or hull would be preferable to two "stealth" colours.

I'm not too fond of either of the colors. Not planning on going offshore. Regardless I am going to be in a busy Canal that has large yachts and other boat traffic. I'm going to probably paint the deck A light color first. I see some prep work and painting in my future.
