    Choices

So Fred, there you have it, both sides (and opinions), but in the end, it is your choice. Everything Hump says is correct, but I have found that there are lots of places on a boat that only need to keep the rain water out. Foam, good or cheap, and glass do a very good job at keeping decks and cabins dry and leak free. Hulls seem to do fine with ply and epoxy, particularly if rain water never gets in them.
I would not be concerned about the Buc's hull shape and hard chines. They may look a little dated, but they work very well- and I am seeing hard chines again on some of the newest designs :).

I should clarify i was not using "dated" in a derogatory sense, far from it. The buc is a classic design, cabin, chines, pointy float sterns, and all the rest, and I personally would build it as-designed, but it's not my boat!!

    cabin top

    Hi freddyj
Your boat is looking great. Here is a picture of a buc24 with I believe a curved cabin top. I am not sure what is gained by it. Maybe a little more headroom.

curved shape gives more stiffness, or allows using lower thickness ply.
Stressed plywood is mucdh stiffer than flat pannel.

    dated looks

I keep coming back to these pictures of Miranda in Auckland that Gary baigent posted a while back. She is simply gorgeous. She might be an older design but like many things that were designed well like an old porsche or ferrari they still have much appeal. Miranda has been modified some. The transoms have been extended and she has lifting foils. Also a different main sheet track arrangement.

The Bucc 24 was the best selling of all Lock Crowthers designs. :D

Question: When cutting the slots in the hull for the stainless crosstube braces, how does one figure out where to cut the slot? Sounds like complicated geometry to figure it out.

Greetings everyone I would like to get everyone thoughts. I really like the B24 design and was wondering if there is a way to apply the ply design to more modern foam core ? Would this be feasible endeavor ?

    tlebouefbb2;

Start at page 1 and keep reading or use the search function. In a nutshell it can be done but impact resistance will suffer and you will need top grade materials and skills to match the weight.

    Miranda

Hello, I figured it was about time I posted something on here.

My wife and I are the current owners of Miranda, we were close friends with the previous owner (who sadly passed away last year) and have been sailing and caring for Miranda for a few years now.

We have yet to venture beyond the Hauraki Gulf. We have made somewhat of a tradition of taking her to Colville each summer and spending a night on Waiheke on the way home.

We are totally smitten with her, and love that we remember the life of our friend every time we go sailing.
