    Hi all,
I'm curious what are your experiences with companies offering CE proofing as a Post Construction Assessment package or other type of packages. I contacted several companies offering these services, asking for a quote and details then usually contact stops when I ask for a quote. What is going on ? We usually exchange a few emails and then communication stops when I get to financial details. Is this a tactic to put the customer in despair or something ? I find this quite appalling, unprofessional in my view.

    Any good experiences ?

    Hi there,
Many CE certifiers are not actually certifieng themselves as they are not a Notified Body of the EU, but rely on one of those. There are fixed fees for common boats, but not for 'uncommon' ones. Certification for these is billed by the hour and may become quite pricey, so they may be reluctant to give a sound offer.
What boat would you like to get certified?

I work as an inspector for a notified body thus directly. PCA is a scary thing to send a quote because it very much depend on the available information (stability, scantling, material certificates, etc...) I have burned my fingers many time quoting for people telling me they had all the documentation only to find out they were merely brochures and leaflet. So if you want to get a quote send as much information as you have, the more you send the cheaper the quote will be.

Yes, I completely agree. However I did send the information already. No replies. When I follow up they reply that they will email in a couple days but they never do.
I think it is way more honest and professional for them to say "we can't do it". Dragging a client over months is simply disgusting.

The term 'reluctant' I don't like. You either reply and say you can't do it, or give a detailed answer and detailed pricing depending on what the client has. I also emailed a Notified Body directly (in NL and UK) and never got a reply. So this is why I'm posting here, just curious of other people's experiences. Have I got a bad apple or this is regular "business" ?!

You are absolutely right, there should at least but an acknowledgement of receival. Out of curiosity of what year is the boat you wanted PCA for?

Really strange, if you were in Asia of Africa I would reply you with a quote within 48 hrs.

Yes, I also find that very strange. I also emailed a few Notofied Bodies directly and nobody replies. Funny business in EU.

I assume that list comes from the official EU RCD webpage, which you need to dig a bit to discover. So I guess yes, they are on that list too. I emailed NB's in DE, NL and UK, no reply. Next is to try phone call I guess. Could you PM me a quote, even if it is Asia, SA based ?
