Well it's been quite some time and more boats are emerging ... here are two more. They sure are fun to build.

WC Fields would have appreciated a 30# boat, what with his fighting his way through a wall of human flesh whilst dragging his 20' canoe behind him.
A back on the seat can be very comfortable.
Tumblehome looks OK and helps to keep from banging fingers and paddles on the side when paddling, but once a certain point is reached it will keep on rolling over. Getting back in an overturned canoe with tumblehome is also about impossible. Some canoes combine flare for most of the canoe and tumblehome where paddling takes place.
Mike Chichanowski of We-No-Nah canoes is a main player in the revival and design of canoes starting in the '60s. his site used to have a lot about the effects of design on how a canoe behaves.
Flare helps a bunch, especially when you want to stand up and paddle or fish.
Try your hand at poling a canoe, once you get the hang of it it works really well, especially going upstream, as you can hold your place in the stream while resting or figuring out which is your next move. Plus it's fast, no effort is lost to slippage of a paddle through water. a duckbill gets you through soft bottoms.

Hey SamSam, have you got any pics of the duckbill you're referencing (or links to one)?

i can't link or post pics with the tablet i'm limited to for awhile, but if you image google 'duck bill push pole' you'll see them. it's a gizmo you attatch to the end of whatever pole you have and spreads out when you push on it and closes when you pull on it so it's not a big drag on the water. once you see it you'll probably think oh yea i know what that is.

    Nice Work Tmark !

I've just been lead to this site, by a good friend and fellow builder.
Have been building strippers since the early 90's.
    I like your design.

Right now I'm building a 16'4" solo of my own, I named Nokomis. I see our builds carry a lot of similar building technics.
Here's a few pics, if I can get it to work.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Building Plans - The Solo Day from Ashes Still Water Boats

Hello gang and Happy New Year

After many requests and a bunch of fits and starts I've put together a set of building plans for the solo boat that I believe approaches the standards expected by boat builders. To date a number of builders, in North America and in Europe have undertaken the project and their feedback has been very helpful and encouraging in developing these plans.

I should probably note, that they are stand-alone building instructions. I'd probably recommend that a new builder purchase Gil Gilpatrick's book or something similar. A second time builder however will have no problem knowing where and how to start.

My hope is that there might be a few folks who find what they're looking for with these plans, and any event, they're available here:

For now I've priced the plans at $85 which I believe represents good value. I did think however, that I would offer a deep discount until late spring in order to to encourage those not familiar with my work to take a look and perhaps build one for themselves or a loved one.

If anybody is interested, please use this coupon code on checkout and the cost of the plans will be reduced by 50% - boat design net plans discount 2016

Please share broadly with those you feel might be interested.
    Many thanks and best regards!
