Brian, could you resize that last picture-just a bit smaller. It blows everything off the page and makes it tough to read and/ or respond to posts.
That sure is a beautiful boat!!

Perfect! Thanks for fixing it...... Don't hesitate to post more pictures of that boat sailing-it is one of the most beautiful small tri's on the market.

    Hi 3 in One

Your tri looks very cool. Is that Theewaters dam you are sailing in. I am in Wellington. Would love to hook up and chat about trimarans.

    hallo tour,
Yes they were taken at Theewaters when we were still sailing with the shorter ama's. You were sailing in Langebaan;- do you know the lagoon well? we want see if we can sail there on the weekend of the 5th of Feb (weather permitting).
    We are in Cape Town.
Did you camp on the shore of the lagoon during the sailing / camping trip?

    Hi Cholsson,
We have taken a few GoPro videos from a camera that we fit onto a boom that we stick into the transom, we intend taking more from other view points soon, I will let you know when it is done.
    Good luck with your studies.

    Small tri's 20' and under

I've loved trimarans all my life and built my first two full size -a 14 footer and a 20 footer- in 1971. Before and since I've built numerous RC model tris including a production RC trimaran foiler in 2000.
I'm as convinced as ever that there is tremendous room for design advancement in these small boats-particularly in the area of high performance race boats and daysailers.
A small tri currently has the bad rap of being slower than a beachcat and that is unfortunate. A well designed small tri that takes full advantage of the trimaran configuration will beat any beachcat in any condition.
I'm hoping to see more small trimaran designs that take advantage of the use of hydrofoils to improve speed and handling in every condition. These new designs don't have to be uncomfortable and can be designed to be easy to sail and able to foil in very light air. Lots of exciting possibilities!

PS- my latest design is a 19.5' foiling tri of which I have designed and built (over the last 4+ years) a 5'LOA X 7'beam test model. The thread is here: http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/mu...f-righting-trimaran-test-model-36058-149.html

20' tri designed and built 1971-planing main hull(forgive the picture quality) :

    20' and under trimarans

    =================
Thats a great idea! Are you volunteering? And where would you post it so that someone a year from now could find it? And how would you update such a list 7 days from now when the ability to add to the list expires?
I think somebody really interested in small tri's 20' and under would enjoy going thru this thread from start to finish!

I built a 16' Piver Frolic for my teenage son. I built it in a garage space in the car park under my apartment block in Toronto.
I dispensed with the dagger board and box, fitting fixed fins in the sides of the floats, of sufficient area.
Apart from enabling the tri to sit upright when sailed up a beach, it allowed the main hull to become a single berth, when covered with a tarp, while still having good windward ability. It had the designed self tacking jib and tacked quickly every time.
My son used to sail it across Lake Simcoe at night and in any weather to visit his Gf. It was a great little boat and plans are still available.
