Wave response at zero speed

Hi all!

I need to calculate the wave response (heave,pitch,roll) of a capesize bulk carrier at a sea state of approximately 1.5~2m significant wave height at shallow waters(?). The ship depth is 20m and the sea-to-seabed depth is 20m.

Does anyone know if there is any software to calculate wave responses at zero speed (at shallow waters)?


Maxsurf is not good in that for sure....

 

When you say calculate...do you mean by hand or using software?

To establish ROAs is not a straight fwd calculation. However there are enough design guides of added mass and shaped hulls etc in order to get a "feel" for the response. But the calculations are lengthy and somewhat tedious. But must be calibrated against known data of equivalent vessels for better accuracy.

 

If the ship depth is 20m and the sea-to-seabed depth is 20m, the ship is aground. Are you trying to calculate how the ship will pound on the bottom?

Hand calculation could be an option if they provide adequate results. Do you know any such method?
However, I mainly focus on finding the appropriate software for wave responses at zero speed and shallow(?) water.




@GONZO: The ship is not aground. Her draft is less than the depth of course (i.e. D=20m, Tmax=18.2m). I am trying to clalculate the UKC.

There are several programs that can do that, e.g. AQWA, GL Rankine,
MOSES, OCTOPUS, PDStrip, and WAMIT.

The attached paper by Gourlay et al compares their performance for a range
of speeds (including zero) for two panamax (and one post-panamax) container
ships in shallow water.
