This item is in the mid Bilge of my Tollycraft 34. Can anyone tell me what it is and does?
    Thanks Danob

Could be a fume detector sensor? Any gasoline or LPG on board?

I don't recognize that particular part, but it should be wired to either an alarm panel or wired so as to interrupt the ignition or gas supply of an appliance. CO and Combustible Vapor Detector is my guess based on the footprint. Either way, there should be a drop dead date on it, as well as a part number.

Thank You for the info. I was having some stalling issues and a Mechanic who worked on the Boat, said he thought it might be the sniffers in the engine room shutting down the Engine so he disconnected and removed them. I thought I saved the parts but can't find them. I've talked to several people about this and no one has heard of the sniffers that can detect fumes and shut the engine down?
Has anyone heard of this and was it a wise idea to disconnect them?
    thanks

Safety devices should never be permanently disconnected.

If you're running gas Engines it is wise to have the appropriate alarms functioning. If you ever saw the speed with which a gasoline fire is eating up a GRP hull, you wouldn't even ask the question.
