@W9GFO, I think he means the one still in use today. They have line of site to the south rim, and a repeater up there.

W9GFO, you are correct, my bad. The boat and expedition mentioned was a feature of a film showed in the Grand Cannyon visitors center. Probably one of the Kolb USCG expeditions. It specifically mentioned the 2 valve radio, and showed crew members rushing gleefully toward the radio (sitting on a beach) and grabbing head phones to listen. I assume posed as the number of crew people who could read morse must have been limited. Here is a still from the clip.

I was a bit surprised they could get out of the canyon, but with 120m or longer, perhaps not so hard. KG7LOO.

Sam, I've asked previously that you refrain from posting unflattering images of my exwife. Though this isn't one of them, I'm still going to catch hell for it . . .

She's got a nice smile and I like what she's done with her forehead. What up with her ears, as in where are they? Saves money on earrings, I guess.

While I don't know the details, someone on another forum claimed that the Monkey Selfie took place under British jurisdiction and as such it's presumptuous for PETA to sue in a US court.
