well it was designed by Ray Sargeant as an updated mahogany runabout using the Subaru EA 82 power. Engine and trans weigh less than 300 lbs. It drives a cogged belt turning a 16" prop. I have since started a second boat stretched 11" which will be powered by Mercury's new Vazar sterndrive and have a second cockpit.

The mahogany I used was 3/16" mahogany planking left over from Higgins PT boat operations- it was acquired to sheath PT boats in WWII and somehow ended up in a warehouse for 60 years until I came along and bought it all.

So, you did nothing less than building a boat out of the most precious material at the market! Congratulations! And nice to know that timber did´nt end up in a computer designed "Gin and Barbeque" platform.

Ray Sargents plans for this runabout are no longer available. Ray has died. However I still have a set of large drawings, somewhat tattered, and 3 small instruction books plus a parts list. I can have all this copied and sent to France- you pay the costs of course.

Dale what you're proposing is illegal and unethical. The plans you have, gave you the right to build one boat, not sell or otherwise transfer plans around. Simply put you don't own the rights to those plans, nor their distribution, just the right to build one boat from them. This is a common misconception among novice builders, but one that is also commonly pursued, for violation of copyright. I've had to do so with my designs and I'll bet the Sargent estate might consider this option as well. The only way around this is, an agreement with him that's still valid or with his estate, permitting you plans distribution and/or a production run.

The common thing in the UK is to pay the designer (or estate in this case) a small royalty. This is often a very small percentage of the nominal retail cost of a production boat. I would suggest approaching the Estate, and see if this is possible. Remember this will be for the bare hull only. not any engine etc etc.

It is annoying as a designer in any field to see work (which often reflects much experience), copied without permission. We have one anti copying organisation her in the UK known as ACID to help protect copyright as well as other legal avenues but these are expensive. A polite approach I'm sure will yield a positive response.

    Good morning Sir.
You badly interpreted my question. Ido not look for plans without paying them !
I maybe badly expressed myself in English.
    I am sorry.

Dale, unless you have a written contract with the estate, I'll follow up on Avion's desires and pursue you in this country, for what you now know as inappropriate and illegal. Once you've had your work stolen (which is what you'll be doing) you'll look differently at folks that blatantly say screw the guy that put hundreds of hours into it the effort. Avion, if you don't want to get caught up in a legal battle, I'd recommend you stick with documentable plan suppliers, NA's and designers. This guy doesn't appear to be any of these things.
