    To the Moderator,

Recently I was searching for something in the internet and the name rxcomposite turned up. Not surprising as most items in the BD forum do come up in google most of the time. What what was unusual was that my private message conversation with another forum member was viewed online, not while I am logged to BD Forum. He was inquiring about our boatyard and asking for prices.

Unfortunately, I navigated out quickly and forgot to retrace back the steps as my mind is in the item I was searching for.

Now, I am wondering, how secure are the private messages?

    Rx

I typed in your name and it was the 5th page before "View Profile: rxcomposite - Boat Design Net" popped up. 9th page before a viadeo profile popped up. Lots of bike related stuff as "RX composite" pops up with that, as I'm sure you were already aware.

When I search for "Rurudyne" all sorts of me-related stuff pops up. I would hope that you're seeing the same thing just you-related from your own computer.

You could try to confirm this by typing in another Forumite's name that isn't as oddly unique as my own, which might stand for something more folks would talk about than me, my stories, jokes, etc. (which it seems hardly anyone talks about but that's okay I suppose).

Rx - if you could please send me a PM with a few lines or details of the PM in question I would like to search and see if I can see what you were seeing.

By design vBulletin private messages are meant to be messages sent directly between members rather than published on the public forums; however, the security is much lower than a bank or ecommerce gateway for example; the site has from the beginning been accessed via http vs. https; PMs are not encrypted; it's possible though unlikely that a connection could have been sniffed. It would generally be recommended to never send personal details such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, or business-critical confidential information through the forum's PM system (or any forum's PM system, IMO) or by non-encrypted email for that matter.

    Rurudyne,

I am used to seeing Rxcomposite in google. Sometimes, I will be searching some topics and Boat Design forum would turn up with me sometimes in the thread. I got used to it so much when that search turned out to be me searching myself, I did not give it much thought. I just dismissed it and said to myself I will come back to it later. Turned out, I too got lost. I could not retrieve it anymore. I have gone too far to backtrack.

Seems the forum is frequently seen by google or just the right answers are there.

I thought my screen name is unique but it seems when I search it, a lot of bike related stuff comes up.
