Another great upgrade, Martijn! My admiration for your work grows with each revision.

    A few quick first impressions...

IGES export now works perfectly on both of my systems.

Redo (and the new undo features) are most welcome.

I'm surprised, and delighted, to see yet another fairing tool in the (already impressive) arsenal. Very nice!

With its built in lift and drag analysis, and its ability to generate standard wing shapes, the keel/rudder wizard is a truly valuable instrument.

    Very well done!

This is surely the best free software available anywhere, for any purpose. Thanks for all your effort Martijn.

IGES export seems works fine now. I have my first Freeship designed hull milled on a 5 axis machine this week, so I think I willl find out pretty soon! :p

Actually I am starting to like Freeship more than my "official" software. The only thing missing yet is some basic stability calculations, but I have no doubt that that will be solved.

    Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the kind words guys......

    Windvang,

In case you have any pictures, could you send one to designs@freeship.org because I want to start up a gallery with FREE!ship designs currently being built?

I will do that. The boat is a 6m. solar race boat and will probably on display at the HISWA so you can even see the real life result yourself!

I'll be on one of the HISWA stands at Febr. 28th so I'll most certainly pay you a visit to have a chat. I thought you were milling a smaller model, but if I understand correctly it's a 1:1 scale?

Yes it a full scale plug. Well we tried a 1:20 model first, but it all looked fine, so we went ahead with the 1:1 one.

    Freeship How-to questions

Freeship looks brilliant! I will put the effort in to really mastering this.

I have not been able to discover how to do a couple of things, maybe because I need help, and maybe because they're not there yet.

Can I set bulkeads in positions that may not align with station positions? (same applies to soles/waterlines)?

For lap-strake hulls, can I specify plank laps and develop planks with lapped dimensions?

Any way of producing station profiles for moulds with allowance for plank thickness (I guess it shows that I am talking wooden boats here).

I agree with Windvang about stability calcs. Also, is it possible to display waterline? What about specifying coordinates of heavy loads (engine, ballast, crew etc) and calculating a dynamic waterline?

I just love the "developability" and "fairing" displays, the ability to specify a "crease" edge, ability to add keels etc. So many great features...

I'm thinking that what your asking here is outside the scope of the software. I know Martijn has plans for some hydrodynamic calculations and calculations at angle of heel. The software just keep growing and getting better. I think he will receive sainthood one day.:D

I thought that I had read about creating or drawing "parts", but I need to pull the manual out and investigate that aspect. You can create a sole or bulkhead by extruding an "umbilicle cord" and later deleting the cord. i. e. extrude an edge up vertically from the hull center line, trim it to sole height and extrude it horizontally. Then delete the vertical component to leave to sole as a separate entity. As far as I know, "T" intersections are not allowed. Bulkheads and such will need to sparate entities and thus, can only be "eye=balled" into place for purposes of CG calculations.

    Regards
