    Certainly is, you see boats go aground and become stranded on bars and surf beaches, and the timber ones usually break up, the steel ones often unscathed.

    Yes - I've enjoyed it too, and learnt a lot.

    The trouble with steel boats is you pay a heavy penalty (pun intended !) in terms of power required (and therefore fuel consumption) for a steel boat especially if they are smallish.

    Mr E, the Leech 825 would not have gotten heavier with the modifications I discussed, and it would have come up out of the water a bit but not enough to make a significant difference to bridge deck clearance.

    Wavebreakers do seem to make a difference, but 500mm is not far shy of what would be good clearance. I guess the only way to be satified about that would be a test in rougher conditions.
