    Hey Swamp!

I think the three blade chopper props I was running were 18X21? Stock 502s with 415HP. Which gave me 4,400 RPM WOT. In my opinion it was over propped at that time. I have since had the props pitched down to about 20".

I tested new gears and was able to go full throttle for the first time with updated engines. Gets on plane better than some boats I have skied behind, and engines easily hit the limiter at 5250 RPM, top speed was over 55MPH. I tried a set of 4 blade 17.5X21" Rolla cleavers, and switched back to the three blade props. The engines just didn't seem happy at the lower RPM. I might get them tweaked and try again.

Send me an email if you are interested in the old gears Oliver. They still worked fine. I was planning to throw them up on Ebay. But would rather not hassle with that if I don't have to.

Let's hear a report from the rest of the Harley crowd!

What have you done to your Harley this week?

I replaced all the hatch sealing gaskets thinking it would fix a leak but alas ....nojoy. So we pulled the three hatches and though I feared the worst, that it would take chainsaws and chisels to get the hatches out I was shocked. Pulled the umpteen screws and they lifted right out. The sealer between the hatches and the deck was basically reduced to dust. Harley use elmers on these things ;-)?

    Hatch Repair

    Hello Swamp

When my hatches were originally install they cut the corner radius too large in the four corners and on all three hatches. So there was no coring for the screws in the corners. Their solution was to calk chunks of wood in the corners for the screws. Well the wood rotted and so on. My deck consist of two layers or 3/4" divinycel. I removed about 1-1/2" out of the upper layer all the way around the hatch. Next took strips of 15lb coosa ,layered with two 1-1/2oz mats and a 2514 fabmat on both sides and fit them into the routed slot. With a little resin and 3M bonding putty I bedded the strips into to the slots. After it cured I recut the hatch openings to fit snuggly and re-bedded with 5200. The screws bit well into the glass and coosa. Also replaced the lexan and gaskets. No leaks. Warning the router tends to bite and will go places u never dreamed of. Didn't take many pics of the hatch repairs but posted some new ones in my dropbox. Good luck. Hope yours isn't so complicated

mine were cut surprisingly well - I was shocked....but the sealant was gone....25 years in the florida sun will do that I guess. Reseat and seal went well. Clean up needed on the crazed glass but that will have to wait. For now I just want water tight so I can redo the ceiling...AGAIN! ugh.

Hello again - did you replace the lexan yourself or order it from hatch manufacturer? Thanks!

I replaced it myself. Don't cut them to snuggly they need room to expand. If there to tight they will pop out when they expand from heat. Used a Ge calk will get the number. 5200 didn't work so well on that application for me

    Thanks Sharper.

We tested the newly reseated 5200 hatches and no leaks! Now my retired father is recreating the ceiling panels one at a time and at his leisure - the guy is 80+ and loves this kind of precision work. Of course someone turned off the A/
C here in S. FL and it is suddenly HOT - so AC is on in the boat for him. One step at a time right guys?

Those of you who removed the hull stripes/stickers - refresh my memory - how did you do it?

Thanks for the reply pizza..you guys seem to really enjoy these boats... I am from Holland, MI... The boat I bought is the one from MI that was mentioned before in the threads... It has been a labor of Love so far.... Power is twin 454 crusader chevrolets.. Twin disc paragons with 1.52:1 ratios...sp1000 drives that I am unsure have asd#6 or #8 drive tubes... I have rolla 18x20 4 blade cleavers pushing... I have been doing all the regular Harley stuff like----Hatch reseals, trans cooler replacement, wiring for sumps and sump pump replacement. And holding tank was 5 gal, replaced with 13 gal.. Galley fresh water pump... We use ours for pleasure cruising up and down the west coast of Michigan...
