It's only been two and a half years since I posted to this thread. I've been working or get this project off of the "to do" list. I may throw on some accent paint, but otherwise I'm calling it done. It's been on the water a couple of times before paint and varnish and the little craft performs nicely. It was never meant to be a show piece and was only a prototype/proof of concept build and as such I didn't use quality ply. I used sub-floor quality ply.

This ply has 5 veneers, but the surface veneers are paper thin so, in essence, it's a three veneer ply with the predominant veneers running across the ply. I feel this contributed to a certain lumpiness in the deck. If I was the name the little craft, I would call it "Loblolly".

The plain white sides looked a little too barren. Added some beige to the sides.

Then, I couldn't leave it alone and wanted to try something visually. I applied vinyl pin striping in a effort to give the illusion of strakes. I think I only succeeded in making it look like it has three horizontal pin stripes.

Hello LP, I am new to this and I know that this publication has been many years ago but I am considering building your kayak. My doubt is that in the photos it seems that the background does not follow the lines of the drawing. I'm wrong? Did you fix the back panels in the building? Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.
