bilge tank and Dirty oil tankl

Good day every body
I want to know about the difference of Bilge holding tank and Dirty oil tank, any body knows according to MARPOL, which of them should be provided on ships? depending on GT of the vessel?

 

I guess you're talking about a boat that is required to comply with MARPOL because otherwise we could get into arguments as absurd as that has been raised with the funnels.
It would also be good to know the type of waste that can be collected from the bilges, but usually they have nothing to do with the dirty oil.

Let me describe: you have a commercial ship with the GT above 400, then you want to know if this ship requires dirty oil tank? or not
what about bilge tank?

 

In general, it is forbidden to throw waste into the sea, any kind of residue, therefore, must have storage tanks on board.
If you want, for example, recycling dirty oil, you need a specific tank for it.

 

Tansl is correct here, generally a ship is fitted with lube oil storage tanks and waste oil collection tanks. Depending on the economics of recycling/disposing of the oils, different oil types may have different collecting tanks. The bilge is generally pumped to a bilge collection tank which may or may not have a oily water separator which allows "clean" water to be discharged and the oily waste collected as required by MARPOL or other flag state/regional acts.

Note that the Clean Water Act has no minimum size limit...generally a small vessel unregistered vessel doesn't cycle through enough oil to need collection tanks. You still need the placard
