Whtcha think. I'm thinking 26-28ft. 5000lbs, 20mph top. Stiffening up at 12. Sharp fine entryreaching out fast as it goes aft.

I take it "80 up diesel" is unicorn power as opposed to horsepower.

Nevermind. It's going to be a marriage of a pacific dory to a husky version of Chappell's Waterman. My father and uncles discussions and builds of a diamond bottom semiplaning hull sunk in. . 1/2 sides,1" bottom, frames 12" OC. The back 60% WLL of the keelson will be dead straight as will be the chine heights. It will be fast enough downhill when needed. I have a Isuzu db1 for the project so it's overpowered for flat water but it will be fine chugging up rollers. On the west coast we buck a chop and rollers out and surf in. I may still run out to the Long Hole in rough weather. The profile will be similar to the Redwing. Beam to length about 3.23 depending which side of the line I cut. The length will be what I can get out of three sheets of ply for the sides.
The designer builder and owner wear the same shirt. I don't foresee any conflicts there.

JM said he had noodled a version of the Waterman along modern lines. I'd be curious what that looks like.

Would you ever put up a small sail on any of these trips?
I've always liked the look of the St. Pierre Dory. Not sure how it would fit it on the left coast.
I think these are both Bob Payton interpretations...

Not many around here. Nexus has a local example. A staysail is an option.

In my opinion the beauty is below the waterline.

 

Must say their 27' St. Pierre Dory looks great, but didn't see the staysail option there, or is that on another one ?
