Bpw, I agree that aluminum would make a lot of sense in high latitudes. Do you have any photos you can share of your boat? You guys have me convinced that a spade rudder is not a bad idea.
Gonzo, what are your thoughts on the Vita 30 as a cruising boat in the tropics? It's a Van de Standt design, I posted some photos in this thread of an aluminum version. Also, below is a link to their website.

Here is a link to a bunch of pictures, we plan to gut the interior and decks to start from a bare hull.

The new boat is in the Zealous album, if you interested there are pictures of the current boat in the Chilean channels album, was a bit sad putting her up on Craigslist this week but hopefully we find a good home for her.

I have always been a fan of Van de Standt. All his boats look really good, and they are well designed.

Sorry for the delayed response guys; I had to unexpectedly go under the knife. Bpw, your Inga is a pretty one, but your new aluminum Gurney boat is probably better suited for high latitude adventures. Are you going to do the rebuild work yourself? I would like to see pics of the rebuild as the work progresses. Gonzo, thanks, I have always liked Van de Standt designs as well. Thanks, guys.

Going to be doing the work ourselves, no other way we could afford it. Just finishing up the trip on our current boat and hoping to start the new project this fall.
