It appears that the Tach on a 1987 Ski Supreme I just purchased is not working. Verified that 12 vdc at the battery/ground terminals and signal wire continuity to the - terminal of the coil.
Q1) Does anyone know the part number of the tach that was used on that year boat? ( markings worn off ). I do know its a Faria.
Q2) Is there a way to bench test the tach? (check for terminal corrosion)
Q3) Is there a good place to by a surplus tach? (Did not see a similar looking tach on ebay or amazon although there are plenty there).
I may have to just bite the bullet and buy a new one but prefer to make sure its truly not salvageable first.
    Thanks
    Bill

    Rasorinc,
Thanks for the info. They responded with some documentation. Since it is out of warrantee by about 25 years, repair cost is $100. :) Think I'll buy a new one for about $80.

There are a few web sites that sell vintage boat instruments. look here http://www.oldboatgauges.com/i-o-inboard-amp-outboard-tachometers
    http://www.classicboatwork.com/classicparts/gauges/gauges.html
    https://www.vintageboatparts.com/shop/

I bought a gauge from this outfit through ebay http://www.ebay.com/usr/overstockboatparts I don't know if it works yet because I haven't installed it. But it appears to be in good condition and it is an original part for my 1972 Sea Ray. However it's 42 years old so we'll see.

Ike, Thanks! Great web sites. And hopefully the gauge you bought works.
