    Hello people,

This is my new custom made trimaran houseboat. It has 10m length and 3.5m width powered by 2 yamaha 60hp 4 stroke.

I am looking for the less weight solutions covering the interior and the exterior deck. My deck is made of fiberglass honeycomb panels covered by 2 layers of normal fiberglass. As you see in photos I attached, the deck does not look quite good like it is in this moment. I want to give it some life!!
So for the interior, the best solution I thought, is to cover it with heavy traffic linoleum, which is easy to maintain clean, also is very durable.

For the exterior I want to choose perforated aluminum plates like the red (I will use gray mat color) one in the photo I uploaded.

Does my solutions can be replaced with some other lighter ones?

    Thank you

Seems to be a fine choice to me.

For the exterior, why not just paint with a non-skid product made for this application? Like Kiwigrip.

Aluminum sounds slippery, expensive, and needs fasteners of some type.

The red plates will trap dirt etc and if there is movement between the plates and
the fiberglass will get eaten away. Fiberglass doesn't stand up to abrasion very well.

If the plan is to remove the outside decks and replace them with the aluminum plate, water will splash up through it and make a very wet deck.

You might consider just painting the inside and exterior decks with paint of some sort, cheapest would be an exterior latex porch and floor enamel, with maybe a very small amount of sand for anti skid.

Do you have a weight problem or a performance problem in relation to wanting a light weight solution? It seems 120 hp should make the boat go pretty fast.

    Matt Gent,
Kiwigrip, instead of aluminum, seems to be a good product for the exterior decks. What about mud? Kiwigrip doesnt retain mud in those little cracks? And it will be hard to clean?

    SamSam,
The plan is to apply something on the deck, not to remove it.
Of course I have a weight problem, the lighter it is, the less gasoline consumes. With 120 hp I get about 28km/h with 9 persons on it.

Thanks for posting that review. :)

On the with sand or sugar option, they mentioned the possibility of not looking scruffy after use with different base color.

One of the chief reasons I can see for white decks is keeping the boat cooler, but there's more than one way to do that which brings up the question: has anyone played around with IR reflective paints or coatings for a marine environment?

We purchased these products to trowel into the surface of decorative concrete work surfaces on our summer kitchen. Worked well. How about substituting the crystals for sand in paint by scattering over the wet paint using a flour sieve.?

I just talked to the kiwigrip rep. He said

"I did set up a coupon for Kiwigrip."

    For any one interested.
It is for Kiwigrip white only, one gallon or one quart.
The coupon gives a 20% discount and free shipping.
    The coupon code is BBCKiwi.
To use the coupon, enter the code in the shopping cart, after the address page.
It will show the discount before the payment page.
Only one coupon per customer. It can be combined with the quantity discounts on fiberglass but not with the coupon that one receives with the boat plan

Romania has been a member of the European Union since 1st January 2007, although they have sensibly kept their own currency the Leu, so far!

In 2014, Romania's Convergence Report set a target date of 1 January 2019 for euro adoption. As of April 2014, Romania meets 5 out of the 7 criteria. Greece, Spain & Italy are having to deal with the consequences of being in the Eurozone with Germany.

In the past I'd compared the Euro, where there is local economic malaise at least, with a kind of gold standard but worse because you can't even go out and dig up more gold.

By this I meant that, while it's certainly fiat currency, it comes with loss of a number of monetary policy options that countries with their own fiat currency have available to them, leaving weaker economies or overburdened governments with an effectively expensive currency (set by the economies of the stronger EU countries) that they can't print, have to borrow, and can hardly afford as a consequence.

That is simply a recipe for disasters. At least to my way of thinking.

I also wonder if places like Greece can't even benefit, as it might have otherwise benefitted had they still had their own currency, from the boost from tourism from other parts of the Eurozone as folks took advantage of exchange rates for relatively cheaper vacations.

And the "downside" to the stronger economies, or whose governments aren't basket cases, actually seems to be an upside, for in so far as association with these weaker partners softens the value of the Euro that benefits their exports outside the Eurozone ... so they can grow relatively stronger, strengthening their vitals all while bring able to pat themselves on the back that they didn't screw up things like those poor souls over yonder did.

Thank you for your help. So I have two products from where I can choose:

    1. KiwiGrip
    -expensive (4 litre at £154.80)
    -have light-grey

    2. Protecta-kote
-cost much lower than KiwiGrip (4 litre at £68.95)
-doesnt have light-grey color (cant use dark-grey, seems to dark for my boat)

But I noticed that Protecta-kote has also another product named Protectakote UVR (also available in light grey), less expensive than KiwiGrip (4 litre at £106.95). What is the big difference between them?

    Builderjeff,
The coupon code is working, but I cant buy it from boatbuildercentral.com. My location is Romania, it would be great if I could use this coupon on boatpaint.co.uk, for LT GREY color, not only for white :)

    SamSam,
Can you name a brand who makes 'exterior latex porch and floor enamel'?
    thank you
