Wow, that's a long way for a Harley to travel.. Do you know how/when it got there? Im not sure of any difference in my 1987 and your 1994, but you still can reach Howard Harley at the factory, he would know. As I said those are good engines, although I think you should consider Arnesons if u are able. They make a big diff (so I am told) and mine have proven to be nearly repair free for many years. Hopefully you are skilled in paint, fiberglass, mechanicals & more, if not you soon will be.. Huh Steve? Best of luck with it!

    Hey Lee!

Your boat looks great. I have pondered deleting my bow rail too, but safety has always won out over looks. I may shorten it though. Powder coating usually isn't that expensive. The hard part would be finding someone who had a oven big enough!

I have been running the boat a lot this year. Trailered it 250 miles up to Anacortes WA to cruise the San Juans Islands. We rented a house on Lopez Island for a week, then another house on San Juan Island near Friday Harbor, for two weeks. Both had docks. We did a lot of crabbing, and whale watching. Many friends and relatives came and went during our stay. I used over three tanks of gas, and I think the trip meter showed about 900 miles by the time we hauled it back on the trailer. Absolutely no issues with boat.(other than the gas tank being empty)
I did have my first blow out on the freeway, fortunately I was in a good spot, and able to easily get off the freeway to change it. After installing the spare i headed to the nearest Les Schwab Tire and bought 6 new ones.
As far as future projects, I need to replace both trannies. They work fine until I use near full throttle, or horse it on plane with a heavy load, then they will kick in and out until the sticks are pulled back a bit. I could keep running as is, but it drives me nuts not being able to jam the stick forward. I found a set of new ZF63As just North of me for an excellent price. I am picking them up on Tuesday. I'm sure they will not just "fall in". I'm guessing some fab work will be needed.

We did get boarded by the Coast Guard, they were very polite and weren't all full of themselves, as I have experienced in the past. They just wanted to see my weapons and safety related items/

    Sharper,

I must say that your level of detail, skill, and work done is very impressive. That kind of craftsmanship will pay off in droves over time.

Hey Steve, glad the boat is running good and good luck with trannys. I am in the garage for the winter. Props are off and going in for refurb. Some upholstery work and 3 new axles for my trailer. I guess the transport guy must have hit a serious pot hole or curb. She came back from Fla with 2 bent axles- Will go back with a heavier version this time,

Darryl, I have to say that fiberglass and structural work is some of the best I have ever seen, not to mention the fabrication! Wow.. You are in FT Myers area, aren't you?? When is your Harley going back in the water?? I want to check that out, when I am in Fla.

Darryl, I feel your pain about the nights and weekends. I have spent many of them on my Harley (so has Steve!).. I can tell u from experience, u will be pleased with the outcome. We have been getting a lot of use from ours over the past few years with very little maintenance needed. Nice that u have the CAT 3126, they have been very good to me. I am leaving the boat in MD this winter but will be in S Fla next winter for sure. I might be in TAmpa next month and will try to stop in. What is best way to reach you?? I will be glad to share some pics and info on how I rebuilt the console/dash.

Hey Steve, How bout a close up of your trailer tongue & winch. I am getting ready for some work there, including and electric jack. Do u have one?

I guess Martin's 47' Harley in Texas and Tom's 42' in GA are taking a rest. Have not heard a peep from either of them.. And Swamp??? what u up too?

    Hi Pizza,

I finally got started on the trans project. The port unit is bolted in, engine lined up, and is ready to install new mounting brackets. Fab shop should be done with those today. The drivelines have to be modified some, but that can wait until last. A shift bracket and bell crank will have to be fabbed up too. It's all fun stuff.

well I guess you have to be spending time & $$$ or it's just not boating. Good luck with the trans. I think I mentioned that propos went to Tampa for refurb and now back, looking good. I decided to follow directions (for once) and strip drives and all metals bare outside transom. Getting 2 coat of epoxy primer then 2 coat of trilux.. See how that behaves this summer. Changed the drive indicator cables while at it. How much 90 w oil do u keep in the Arneson resivior? I was about 75% full but read somewhere it should be more like 25%. Do u ever change the drive oil?
Other than some minor paint & lighting stuff, my project list is kinda small for this year.. Girlfriend is doing some curtains and cushion stuff in the cabin and she wants to add some galley stuff like a microwave.
We are planning on a long winter in Fla 15/16.. Probably rent a home in the Keys for 60 to 90 days, plus be in Palm Beach for a while too. She wants a gas grill fits in rod holder.. u got one of those?

My drives don't have reseviours. I do have to be careful about over filling them, otherwise the input shaft seal leaks into the boat. I change the drive oil every year. I do have a Magma grill that fits on a little bracket bolted on the side of the boat. If I had it to do over, I would mount it on the transom so it had some protection from the wind when anchored. The flame will get blown out if it is too windy.

    anyone else? Oliver? Still there?

I'm very close on the tranny job. I'm ready to see what top speed will be when I can finally hold the pedal down. 55 MPH? We'll see.

Hello Gents- Still alive and afloat believe it or not. Good to see you boys keeping your Harleys in good shape. My old RTO 454s are running fairly well but she is still a "trawler" due to some trim problems and I need to get the props tuned for the weak azz motors or replace them.....been saying that too long.

Got a couple new trim pump motors and been chasing some odd electrical issues - keep frying the various starter solenoids and not quite sure why - but easy fixs.

Wish I had a lift or trailer - she has to come out soon and the days of the do it yourself marina are almost gone....so planning a haul out and bottom job.

Hey Steve - at your lowest powered gas engines what prop size were you running?

Also - if those old gears are healthy enough or rebuild-able let me know if your selling em....been wanting to go dual regular rotation motors for a while now. The counter-rotating thing is a pita.

    cheers Guys!

Looks great Sharper! My '88 leaked around the deck hatches (again) and I need to redo my ceiling (again). Would like to see how you have fixed the hatch issues and if you redo ceiling post your pics please. Is there a better alternative to the foam and vinyl over 1/4-inch ply ceiling method?

    Cheers!
