Pericles, we have a certain type of open boat, usually in the 18 to 20 foot range, often called a flats boat. Many of them have a tall tower, permanently attached, at the stern of the boat where fisherman perch from a high vantage point, for whatever reason.....sighting fish perhaps. In any case, the tower may be 2 or 3 meters above the waterline. Perilous it seems to me. These boats may have huge outboards and be capable of absurdly high speeds as in 50, 60 MPH.

Actually some of the towers do resemble ladders. I don't think that the users have considered setting a sail from them.

Geezzz, I had to go back what... 5 pages to see the launch :(

Finally Hoyte. Seems one have to stay away MONTHS to see any progress.
And then there's no fish pictures either, I really hope she's not bad luck.
I was referring to the boat.
Did you get the boat to fish around or float around ?
    :D

Thanks, guys. I built the boat to have fun and will do a little fishing and a lot of riding around on Florida waters. We will take it on road trips and maybe even camp in it on scenic waters in other states.

    Sad news.

That is why a boat should be fitted with enough flotation, if worst comes to worst it should serve as it's own rescue boat.

When it's hot most dress down, when you should rather dress up. A life jacket simply floats a body, but they do not offer protection from the cold if you end up in the water - where it's supposed to work - but doesn't. More people die from hypothermia than drowning, drowning is just the consequence.

I have suggested to the local life jacket manufacturers that they should make a comfortable all weather jacket with modest flotation, and bladders that one can breath into to inflate, this way every time you breath out you inflate your life jacket to where you are comfortable floating. The jacket should be like a jacket that covers the waste up, inflated you will have heat insulation, with a hood in the collar that can cover the head as most heat loss is the neck and head. You can have sleeves that serves as a kidney cushion when stowed in a back pouch you can pull out and put on for more heat insulation, as can leg sleeves. There can be groin or leg straps that you can sit on and under arm pads to hang in. It's not rocket science.

Nobody is interested. Maybe we must publish which manufacturer's life jackets were warn during a casualty. Most of these things are death jackets, not life jackets.

    Hi Perry,

Thanks, we have a similar government organization that offers "financial help" if you have an idea that could make money. What has put me off of them in the past is that they are only interested in things that advances pro-government ideals, anything that can put control in people's hands are rejected. If you haven't noticed, all the so called "democratic" countries are on a downhill path to self destruction, no "good working ideas" are allowed to succeed. The only time a workable idea is put in real life is when an individual or a company does so from own initiative. Mostly met with expensive resistance. If it's something that can make people independent of the abusive system it is met with hostility.

    Just saying.

Did first solo today. Max sustained speed was 16.8 mph(14.6 knots) per GPS with Honda 9.9 on Silver Lake.

Note to self: Move more weight forward.
