I sailed the 1970 Cape Rio with Brian Lello! Albatros II!

I stayed at his house for several days prior to the start!

    An extremely nice man!

    Hi John,

    Thank you for your input.
I would appreciate it if you could give us a brief overview of the Lello's handling qualities or any info pertaining to the design. I have requested locally for other Lello owners to share some of their experiences and comments on the design.

    Regards

    Kash

I knew a Brian Lello as a boy in the late 1940's and early 50's. He had a house near Muizenberg and for a time worked for my father fixing up and maintaining his boat. I think he was about 40 ish and was bald with hair on either side of his head. My father worked in Johannesburg and came down most weekend for fishing off Cape Point. Brian had a pram dinghy he had built and used it to great effect around Kalk Bay harbour. I have plenty of film of him, and he was also a very good artist. He was very talented. Sadly my father felt that Brian wanted to do other things so they parted in about 1951/2. However, I never knew that Brian built anything other than small sailing dinghys. Brian had children so it is possible that one of his sons continued designing boats. I would have loved one of his paintings as a happy memory of him. We left Cape Town for England in 1953 and I lost track of him.
