Sure, it's a geometric study really, not depend on materials. You just can't have steel hulls light enough to have decent load capacity. Lenght displacement ratio barely can be more than 5 for steel (should be 6 or more).

Major thanks for these documents as they'll come in handy for a design I'm doing. Good to see that the numbers I'd come up with from my research weren't too far off. A few questions and comments:

    1) How can I be sure I have the latest posted version of the files is it just a matter of searching the thread backward to the last posted?

    2) I'll be very happy to have the document (PDF) with the references.

    3) Personally I think the standards should be free especially if you're an EU citizen after all you pay taxes don't you. In the US the government makes charts (paper and electronic) and they're free while here in England you have to pay for them.

    1) The latest published spreadsheets are always here:

    http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=1

    2) I'd be very happy to have the time to add the references. Most of the formulas are common NA, basic math and physics anyway. Some are from ISO standards and some (only few and nothing too scientific) are my own findings during my design and study work. It is just a note paper...

What is the method to draw in 2D this ellipse or shape?
What is the general method to hand draw the hull, respecting the area dimmensions?

Good afternoon, I'm new to the channel, and even younger in the naval world. I have been researching projects for a catamaran (free, to no avail) that can be built in wood and fiberglass. The prices of a project like this, for my reality, are high, so I started to try to understand and try to design one. And that's where it falls here on the forum. I would like to know, if I could inform the data I have in mind (I don't know if it works) and the design of the vessel's interior, to hear the opinions? I've already started playing with the spreadsheet :)

I forgot the main thing, which was to thank TerhoHalme for the initiative and for the so complete worksheet provided !!!
