Marine glue for wood boat

Thanks Par,I talked to the folks at Fiberglass supply,and they suggested using awl grip saturated (thinned ) on the first coat,then paint it in the normal way....???

 

They would, wouldn't they ... given the prices.

Pars advice sounds spot on - you built in timber to take advantage of the properties of wood, Just basic care will keep the hull sound for a long, long time.

 

I wouldn't used a thinned AwlGrip as the primer, just lessening a products solids count for no good reason, other then sales. Use a good, marine epoxy primer, as I've never seen a compatibility with an LPU on these types of primers, but have on other types.

The only time I would thin a paint is to get it out of the gun and only enough to remove stipple. If it's hand applied, it's very unlikely you'll need to thin it at all.
