Kubota V3300

Gents,
I just purchase a new block kubotaV3300, a nice little machine 3.3 liters..
to replace my speedy yanamar 1.6 liter..!!
look for part to marinize, especially the adapter for the pump, the PTO on the front gear is 3 holes, and I don't find yet any reference in Kubota literature /parts list regarding the gear to fit inside... for the manicooler, don't get any success to purchase one already (beta marine sell only to they customer those critical part...of course... business first..) so I will have to built one from zero..
aluminum probably or steel and hot deep galvanize, in fact the salt water circulate only on the NAB tubing .
any experience from some member here ?

Use a stock OTS pump with a belt and have inexpensive replacement parts.

Sendure has very fine setups to cool the engine.

Simply wrap the exhaust manifold with insulation , or have one of the many folks create a custom wire on blanket .

Marine exhaust of Alabama may offer a cooled exhaust manifold .

A stock water cooled exhaust U at the engine will cool the exhaust enough to go ob with hose.

For your size and speed boat you should consider forgetting about marinization and install a keel cooler and exhaust it up the aft mast (or next to it) , and be done for almost no bucks.

yes . can but not sexy as a gear pump ..one belt to look after.. strange is so difficult to find this little gear on the market !! it's something 3"1/2 diameter... for the exhaust, ya.. just cover, it's a bit hot at the end... will try to built one locally...

Folks looking for low cost engines should look at the local reefer repair shop for truck refrigeration units.

Often 3 running engines can be has for $500 to $1000 , and they may have a nice over sized oil pan .

Add an adapter and a commercial tranny , and you are all set with spares for a few decades.

 

FAST FRED, could a 55 hp kubota power an out-drive or would a special trans with gearing be needed due the low rpms

 

Sure If you can bolt it up it will operate. The question of operating RPM can not be overcome easily.

New gears is far too expensive.

Whatever 90% of rated power RPM could be used , IF you can get a prop to deliver the speeds required.

Probably easier to do on a 10K boat than a 20K+ boat.Get a prop book and see what you really need for pitch and diameter.

Many gas engines cruise as low as 2500 , so perhaps you might get lucky.

The short answer to your questions is yes, and no. The "standard" single prop outdrives, both Mercruiser and Volvo, are designed for max prop dia's 16". To swing a 16" prop with 59 hp (cont output) takes roughly 1800 rpm at the prop shaft. With an engine running at 2600 rpm, it takes a gear ratio of 1,44:1.

The nearest is Merc Alpha leg, which comes with a 1,47:1 gearing for certain engines, giving propshaft speed 1768 rpm, which is just ok. Next question is, of course what speed your boat can reach with the 59 hp available. That info is needed to decide what pitch you should use.
