It seems that your powering plan is based upon a perpetual motion machine. You do realize that has been proven impossible many times over many years? Something about basic cosmic physical laws like Conservation of Energy.........?

Has North Carolina signed up for the Medicare expansion? If so perhaps you could talk to a doctor about your plans? He might be just the person to explain it all to and get his advice, maybe even help you with some of the problems that are keeping you from success. Many topics on here about diesel electric. Nordhavn spent millions and gave up on it.

If you want to do more than a few miles putting around the calm canals of Florida with no diesel,you're gonna need several tons of lead acid batteries. Or spend $50k on lithiums.

Water cooled gen-set heads are about 90-92% efficient, the controllers about 98%,a bit of loss in wiring (say 0%) and the latest $$$$ water cooled synchro motors are about 95%.
So multiply that up and you get 80- 84% efficiency.

A marine gearbox is about 95-96% efficient. End. Of. Story.

 

So just to be clear,

The plan is to power the boat by dragging hydro-electric generators behind the boat?

The generators are powered by the boat that is powered by the generators that are powered by the boat? Might what to think that through a bit more....

 

I think the expression "dead in the water" covers the situation !

Laugh all you want,I bought the rear end of an old dirt bike and put a couple generators on the chain.
Wired into the battery pack,fit on the wife's Prius' trailer hitch and we now get an extra 25 mpg.

Hooked another generator up last night,using it to power the ebay hydrogen generator,feed that into the engine.

Now we're getting 150 mpg in town.

 

It's all down hill from here.......... I get 200mpg......

 

Only 200 mpg? I took West's idea and hooked up 5 old dirt bikes along my back bumper plus a windmill on top. I believe I will soon be able to start selling electricity back to the power company.

I get free power from one of those water burning engines from YouTube.

Before that I had to wrap miles of copper wire around my car to pull radio and TV power into an electric motor, but i could go further than 10 kilometers from the transmission towers.
