    Hello all,

Thanks for your help and time in advance.

I've used a program similar to Michlet in the past for my multi hull thesis, so I am familiar with how the program works, text input files, etc. The examples run fine and the results are great, however my created input files refuse to run. The output each time is "Bad Nx". I originally used FrEE!ship to create in the input files from exported VRML files from Rhino. After working through that error-prone process and looking over the resulting input file, it still doesn't work. I manually made my own using contours and intersect points in Rhino, doesn't work. I then took example files in FrEE!ship and converted them to Michlet, doesn't work.

So I guess my question is a simple one: What does "Bad Nx" mean?

How about attaching the in.mlt file, so that the others can have a look at it and try to fix it?
    Cheers!

Will do. I was hoping for a quick answer, but a look at my input files will do:

The Freeship 5 one is just taking a example hull and exporting it out.

The freeship_input is my hull exported to Michlet from FREE!ship.

The manual_input is my hull manually inputted by me.

    Thanks.

The speed range for #Trim, #Sinkage and #Heel were wrong in your manually created input file. This is what they were looking like (#Trim example):
    # Trim: speed, angle
    0.0,0.0
    1.0,0.0
The speed range was between 0.0 and 1.0
But your Maximum speed is 9.26 - so it was beyond the range defined for the above three variables.

This is the correct speed range:
    # Trim: speed, angle
    0.0,0.0
    10.0,0.0
    Same for #Heel and #Sinkage.

I have attached an in.mlt file, which is your manually-created one with the above corrections. It works on my PC.

    Cheers!

Still crashes. All I did was put it in the root Michlet directory, ran the .bat file above it, the window flashed and that was it. Out.mlt: "Error: Bad Nx" It worked for you huh? Is it a version thing?

I have checked it out again. Works fine here. Tried it on Michlet 8.07.

I am using 9.20. I wonder if that is the issue. I am having trouble finding a previous version online to try that out. Any ideas of places to look?

    Thanks again.

Ok, just downloaded Michlet 9.20 to give it a try and I can confirm that the above file doesn't work with this version.

I've checked out the default in.mlt file contained in Michlet 9.20 directory and have found out that it has a following new variable definition:
    # Viscous Form Factor Method (0=None, 3=Dual)
    3
Naturally, it was missing in the old 8.07-version of in.mlt file.
Please find attached the updated in.mlt file of your hull, containing the definition of the "# Viscous Form Factor Method" variable. It works on my Michlet 9.20

    Cheers

That did it. I had been looking around those parameters, figuring the error might be there and comparing the example files, must have missed it...several times. Thanks for all your help.

Michlet doesn't seem to work under Windows 7

I have just downloaded Michlet v9.32, installed it and tried running it with the default in.mlt. All that happens is a window appears with a number of squares, two of which show some vector graphics. Along the right side is a column of terms and numbers.

Nothing else seems to happen, and there appears to be no user interface. The program can't be killed without going through the Task Manager.

I've tried running the godzilla.bat file, too, and it simply flashes a window on the screen and disappears.

A number of *.mlt files are generated but they all seem to consist of "#BLANK".

Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks!

    I *did* read the manual

Unlike most guys I actually read the manual before running the program even for the first time, and again before posting my question. Still, after reading it for the fourth time and getting pretty much the same results I tried the "?". Lo and behold a menu appeared. The program was actually running!

I was able to run through the menus and try some things out.

Unfortunately, however, it appears that the Godzilla option (invoked via the godzilla.bat file) fails to work. By that I mean the program starts to run, a couple of windows flash on the screen momentarily, and then the program simply goes away.

Which example input file are you using?

    The default in.mlt file.

I also tried another one created via DelftShip (renamed to in.mlt), but it behaved no better.

    No wonder they didn't work.
To work with Godzilla, input files need some additional lines.

Read the Godzilla manual and look at the example files in the godzilla sub-directory.
