I always thought that waterbikes would have more appeal if they put the passenger closer to the water, say like in a recumbent seat, and had a transparent bottom to view underwater as well as over water.

This would also resolve the other big problem with light watercraft, the nuisance of high windage on tall structures.

There is probably a case for a cockpit cover for extra streamlining and rain and cold protection - and it would increase the range of weather conditions you could use it in

    Bigger -someone has done it

edit - oh hey - for $80K you can buy one all ready for a pacific or Atlantic crossing

    thanks for help!!!

i'm making this as my final year project. so there is no design limitations.
my idea is to make a craft for a single person which can be used in rivers and lakes.
powering method will be human power: in addition a motor can be also installed to assist the human.

    thanks for the help tspeer

    michlet was very help full

i'm planing to install an electric motor and use a hybrid transmission system so that both power sources can be used at the same time. it is design to operate in calm water(rivers and lakes) for recreational and transportation use.
in addition planing to install a hydrofoil. motor is used to get the speed required to lift the boat.then operator can power it by manual.

i'm using a catamaran hull for better stability.

i have a limitation of length overall. it had to be in the range of 2m-2.5m
as per the hydrofoil calculations it required 3m/s speed for lift the craft. so when considering the froude number it can't be a displacement hull.

    thank you!!!

If you haven't reviewed old designs already, here is one of many including some cat displacement designs, which might be helpful:

Sustaining an operator on his own manual power for any significant distance will be quite a challenge, even without the added weight of a hybrid motor system.
