    Ballast Installation Access Holes

Today i cut the access holes that will allow work on the keel bolt/ballast cage assembly and installation of the ballast. Don't let the size and number of access holes throw you off. The hollow skeg and fin shells will be completely filled with some combo of resin & stone (100lbs. cu. ft.), resin & lead bits(500lb. cu. ft) or resin & packed lead (600lb. cu. ft.) I have saved and labelled the cutouts and will simply glass them back in place. You will notice some of the volume calculations between stations along the fin. These volumes will help me determine the ballast mixture to both fill the volume and satisfy the weight required in that location to achieve longitudinal balance as per the wonderful, tedious world of "Moments". For me they will indeed be "Moments to Remember," I almost went nuts from weeks of gathering weight and distance info. AHhhh but that's now water under my bridge and filling the "Designer's" boots :D Next phase building the ballast cage.

Yeah, we missed boating season by a couple of weeks, didn't we? It gets freaking cold up yonder in your neck of the woods. Thanks for the invite. Will seriously consider depending on availability of opportunity. Maybe try to work in Vinland visit same trip.

Ha Ha Hoyt, I haven't vacated the living yet but there have been periods where it might have been a desirable break from the ongoing maintenance and running of the B&B plus that sun room addition. So much so we just shut it all down and took a much needed break in the Appalachian Mountains on the West Coast of Newfoundland. Spent a month there, scouted out all the harbors compiling a good log of local fisherman knowledge. Nothing like local knowledge from these old boys to fill in "where the rocks are not" :) And yes of course I walked in the footsteps of the Vikings at L' Ans Aux Meadows. Attached a few mountain scenery photo's to water your appetite.

Yo, How did you know? As per one of these photos the coffee is about ready and the horn cups are hung awaiting use.

Speaking of sharp senses, one needs them 40ft. up. However there are "view" perks looking both in and out the bay. :)
