What about MultiSurf?

Does the reported speed in modeling in a software like Rhino, really outweigh a parametrically designed model in MultiSurf when many changes are needed in conceptual design?
What about the ability to make changes in MultiSurf and see instant balance changes from the hydrostatics right in the model? Advantage to MultiSurf?

Nice try at spamming boatdesign with your promotional effort! Do you get paid for every post? :)
The Multisurf web site has many dead links which doesn't inspire confidence in the business. It is also very expensive and has a fairly small user base.
There are better, more reliable alternatives.

Not a fair assessment of the MultiSurf website or the software. Yes, I am an employee of AeroHydro and was only trying to get a discussion started on the merits of parametric design.

    Yes it is.

I tried clicking on several links, and they gave 404 errors, e.g.
    http://www.aerohydro.com/products.htm#Marine
    http://www.aerohydro.com/products.htm
    http://www.aerohydro.com/download.htm
    http://www.aerohydro.com/products.htm#Industrial
    http://aerohydro.com/test/MSvsMS_Solo.pdf

    And many more.
Maybe you could ask your colleagues to fix the pages.

Why not just start one thread then?

I don't know where you found those links. Those pages were retired about 2 years ago. The only place I found them was in a password protected area of the site. Please try this link and see if you can find them. http://aerohydro.com

Your password protection is completely inadequate then.
I googled Multisurf and clicked on the first link:
    http://www.aerohydro.com/products/marine/multisurf.htm

Thanks, but you're being paid for finding problems. I've just started you off. :)

    Good luck!
    Leo.

I had the same problem as Leo - lots of error 404 and dead links. There are a lot of other parametric packages out there, I don't need to name them all. But for all that McNeels offereing is particularly effective for the smaller company or individual. More so when the history command is intelligently used.

Having used some 'high end' packages for serious projects, I have found that at times even they can be found wanting. Still I'm open to having a play with some demo stuff, after all Rhino was fully working, saves enabled etc prior to release.

On the other link you gave, the "Company" page comes up Ok.

    On that page it says:
"In 1989, AeroHydro undertook the development and marketing of
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software: DSA (Doublet/Source
Aerodynamics), a general potential flow panel code especially adapted
to the design and evaluation of sailing yacht keels; and SSR
(Slender-Ship Resistance), a unique numerical towing tank program for
hydrodynamic evaluation of ship and yacht hulls. AeroHydro also
teamed with SAIC to develop SLAW (Ship Lift and Wave), an advanced
Dawson-type free surface hydrodynamics code, for the U.S. Navy."

Does Multisurf have any hydrodynamic capabilities or add-ons itself?

Or do we have to buy additional packages from other companies?

The link I followed was the top result for a Google search. I think that the
Multisurf people should address that problem urgently or, like you and me,
anyone searching will rightly assume it's a shambles, or dead.

The AeroHydro employee gave a new link which doesn't have dead links. See:

It worked for me a few seconds ago.
Maybe they are trying to fix the mess as we speak :)

Currently the development company, Red Cedar Technology, is working on linking their HEEDS Design Exploration Tool directly to the MultiSurf Modeling
software and to STAR-CCM+ for CFD. There will soon be a powerpoint presentation on covering the results of this effort. It will be posted when available.

In Parametric modeling, whether using a history command or Relational Geometry, requires it to be "intelligently used". The choice of whether to go parametric needs to be made in selecting a modeling tool. I would like to describe the approach used in the AeroHydro software.
The way this is achieved in RG, is to choose the correct "intelligent" entity during the modeling process. One does not create a blank slate entity and then go about adding the proper relationships. In RG, the user selects the proper entity from the menu which has the desired relationship central to its definition.
