America's-Cup Flying Cats Drawings Unveiled

It's amazing Ito see that the basic architecture has stayed consistent among the contending teams. Possibly as a result, there were few alterations to the design of the hulls between each team's first and second boats. The Americans of Oracle have focused from the beginning on lower resistance in both the water and the air, taking the risk of limiting reserve buoyancy at the bows.

The details are extremely neat, and the cockpits are deeper than ETNZ in order to shield the crew a bit. However, looking closely at the sections, the forms of the forward portions of the hulls are more promising, relatively larger now in volume.

This pleasure craft is designed for production in series and built by a local shipyard in New Caledonia named AZUR MARINE. The design is ideal for family and friends weekend sailing in comfort. She has a good autonomy, good maneuverability, and a low draft. These features make her an ideal coastal cruiser. Her catamaran hulls are also designed for rough seas.

Catamarans should be made to reduce weight and to increase length on the waterline. The hull shape is a wave-piercing catamaran with inverted bows. The aft hulls form is wide to reduce pitch.

One of the characteristics of tensor product NURBS surfaces is that they fundamentally have four corners and four edges. As they are applied to hull design, the four edges usually correspond to the sheer line, the stem, the bottom profile, and the transom edge. The four corners are the intersections of these four edges. Generally, the corners represent geometric discontinuities in the surface, with the exception of the stem-bottom profile
corner (forefoot). Here, it's usually the case that a smooth transition is desired, with at least slope continuity, but preferably with curvature continuity (which requires a surface that is cubic in both the U and V directions). .
