OldSailor, do you still have access to those Kraken 25 plans?

 

I kinda doubt the Gougeons flew either the Adrenalin, or Victor T. They both used pivot points on the amas. Seems the hull would be uncontrollable if the amas where the only point of contact.

Is anyone selling carbon spar plans? Or are there any proven scantlings out there. I would like something for my KHSD 24, or my hoped for Scarab 18. Easy to raise, and not terribly powerful. Need to make the boats easy to single hand from the bumper of the car. I am thinking of a standard section spar, or something similar to the spar the Gougeons built for Adagio, which is oval.

 

I had a carbon mast designed for my Kraken 25 trimaran by Chris Tucker Marine Design would most likely be suitable for your boat as well. It's just a one sheet plan of the bare section and scantlings for a 9 metre mast. Designed for home building in foam core or gaboon ply with carbon fibre reinforcement.

Have you made any progress towards finishing the 25, in particular the mast? How much is the mast supposed to weigh?

 

I'm getting there quite slowly my wife and I just welcomed a new baby into our household (now 4 months old!) so I'm tired and cranky as well as busy at work and not having much time for boatbuilding. I have both float halves glassed on the inside and remounted on the float hull I'm using as a mold. Next step is to use double bias tape to join the two float halves together fit it to the deck mold, fit bulkheads and glass the exterior etc. Weight estimate on the mast probably around 8-10kgs depending on how heavy handed I am with resin.

Good to know, maybe in the new year I'll finally get around to that plan of my dad and mines of building a Kraken 25 main hull with 25' amas and sticking a 38' rig on it...

Coincidently, my father built this trimaran in mid to late 70s. It was a big part of my teenage years, racing on various reservoirs around Texas and winning several trophies. My father is 74 now and cannot sail her and mentioned he wanted to sell her so that someone would enjoy her. Curious if anyone is interested? It's been kept in storage building and carefully maintained (although needs a little work). My father (re) designed the cross members to pivot and designed a special trailer which allows it to be towed on the roads within legal limits. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post some pics of her on the water and on the trailer...

 

That's great to know that another of these boats is still in existence looking forward to seeing some photos!
