Hey everyone! I've never built a boat before and would appreciate any advice. I want to build myself and aluminum Jon boat to start and potentially build for extra money from there. I'm an aviation sheet metal mechanic so I'm familiar with working with aluminum, riveting, etc...Also, being from southern Ohio, I'm not surehow much of a demand thereisfor aluminum boats. Again, any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome.
Can you weld? It would be hard to sell if that is your goal.

I have some experience with welding, but not with aluminum. My brother is a certified tig welder and can help me. Also, being a sheet metal mechanic, I have experience with making jigs and templates for later use. I don't expect to become a millionaire, just want to make some side money of the opportunity is there.

I have experience in metal boats, their project, their structure and development of the construction drawings, work process, etc. I think I can help. E.mai me, if you consider it appropriate.

If you build one boat for yourself, that's one thing, but if you build to sell them that's a whole different thing. Boats have to meet Federal safety standards especially if you are selling them. If building for yourself see http://newboatbuilders.com/docs/backyardboatbuilders.pdf If building to sell see http://newboatbuilders.com/.
