I am going to paint an engine room while the diesel engines are being rebuilt, I have some armourpoxy poly aspartic coating that I think will be a great application. Cures in a few hours ,high gloss and uv stable, similar to epoxy but different.

I'm curious why it is typically only used as a top coat.

Over steel, my first choice would be a Mio/Zinc MCU.

Alexseal has a waterborne interior urethane that can be applied directly to wood/fiberglass/clean, sanded resin. Ventilate the engine room as waterbornes need air movement to evaporate out their thinner (water). Great stuff, cleans up easily and stays clean, resists everything. Just don't use it on the pan or anywhere with standing water. Awlgrip used to have a similar product, but they discontinued it. Mechanics and painters alike love and loved it.

The polyaspartic is very high gloss and will not get chalky and is UV resistant and very tough. I tried a test panel and it dried to the touch in a half hour and fully cured in 6. This technology is pretty new but looks very promising. I am also a materials junkie and am always looking for a cool new product to apply in the area of marine applications. I will post when the whole engine room is done, adhesion is also unreal. I bet this product will be all over the marine industry in due time. I have no horse in the race so to speak, just like it because I know it will work great polyaspartic Los Angeles
