Junk is a generic term used by Europeans. It was a rather derisive word and has not technical meaning.

samsam, thanks for the pic's. been along time since I was in HK. wow, when I saw thet red junk sailing in the harbor, I almost fell out of my chair. I saw that in Dec. of 1965 when I was there.
I tell ya, if ya never been there ya missed something out of site. I also got to go sailing on a junk. what a thrill. oh so bad that they are not there any more. have wanted to go back as HK is my fav city of all. well life just goes on. again, thanks for the pic's. if I could find plans for a 28' junk I would it build but just for a motor junk. that would be so kool here in the Pacific NW.

I don't think any plans are available, the closest a person could do would be find one and copy it or take lines from a photo or something and replicate it with modern materials and procedures. There was a guy here once who had seen plans for one in Mechanix Illustrated or one of those type magazines and had been looking for the plans but couldn't find them, no one else could either. Google online books has a lot of the old 'Rudder' magazines online for free, it's possible they might have a set of plans. I did some carpentry work in the '70s on one in St. Croix, I believe it was 100% teak and was like carving butter.

May have been mentioned previously, but The Junks and Sampans of the Yangtze by G. R. G Worcester has drawings of a number of craft though not construction plans. There are severak versions available used; the more recent version is the most complete at 672 pages and it was published by the Naval Institute Press. A search on www.bookfinder.com showed copies available for under $100.

I know this is an old thread but...

    http://tuzhi.zgchuan.com/

I have been looking at the line drawings put up by this Chinese model maker.

I am only a fraction of the way into the website but his models look great and the plans look pretty good as well.

Google is struggling to translate the pages but it is easy to register on the site and once you do you can see the thumbnails of all the junks and sampans. You don't need to register to download the drawings though.

He does respond to emails but he hasn't got a book out of all his drawings so you have to download them one by one.
