Free Nautical Charts from NOAA

    For those of you with electronic charts or wishing/thinking you could have access to more, and for free....your wish is over.

    "After a three-month trial period, PDF versions of NOAA nautical charts will become a permanent product, free to the public. The free PDFs, which are digital images of traditional nautical charts, are especially valued by recreational boaters who use them to plan sailing routes and fishing trips"*

    Cool. All I need now is an internet connection fast enough to make it possible to download them.

    Be nice if Australia followed suit but hell shows no sign of freezing over at the moment....

    I should consider myself lucky then, they take a matter of seconds for me. But I do have a "standard" Japanese 1GB connection :p

    It would probably be quicker, then, for me to sail up and visit you, than to download the charts through my satellite connection.

    Australia may be a First World country in parts, but definitely 3rd World in terms of internet infrastructure. And then - there's Tasmania.
