The Navy should keep it incase they have to re-storm Normandy.
Planing and SWATH don't mix. I cant believe they wasted a dime, much les 80mm of such a provenly bad idea.

edit: by proven bad idea, I mean that the concept of a planing SWATH was model tested and failed miserable.

I do not think that the barge mode was intended to be planing, but could be mistaken. I think the objective was to have a heavy seas alternate to the fair weather hovercraft LCAC. Storms provide excellent cover for invasions.

Aren't this sort of design limited to low weight distribution models? I do wonder why it did not work out for lockheed. Bargain price at $2 mill contact your local government representative to hook you up with a fine looking piece of crap.

Would it work at 1/3 scale?

SWATHs really don't scale well because of the form factors of the power plants and the structural realities of the bridge deck height.

this French thing seems pretty legit and besides their 4 they have sold two to Egypt and IIRC those were part of the deal to sell 4 to the Russians that was cancelled due to politics. IIRC the Russians were quite eager to get them and that was in turn was big part of the reason Russians wanted the French amphibious-assault Minstrel-class carriers.

They don't seem "Swath" but more like deep narrow cat-hulls.
